The Holocaust is not Novel.

Reflections Posted on Thu, December 13, 2018 20:39:15

“..More than once ..I’ve snapped at Mother. ..Why don’t you just wash your hands of me. ..I’m a hopeless case.” Anne Frank. Saturday January 30th. 1943.

We have a committed remit with History to recall with integrity what has occurred, what has transpired and what has taken place. As to what a tattooed fragment of a pyjama presents, we cannot estimate this if we might well lose sight of 6,000,000 Murdered Jews. Such reading material, more novel than history, does not have a place in the context of The Holocaust which seeks to reveal the overall tragedy. For that reason, we simply must not plagiarise from Hitler’s clear intention to annihilate the entirety of the Jewish World. For words to merely satiate a narrative so clearly undefined along the margins of the catastrophe is disingenuous to those Jews of this immense loss.

“..Why am I here. ..Because I am a Jew. ..Why am I telling you this. Because there are those who do not wish for my existence to be Remembered. Because I am a Jew. Because We are Jews. Because I am 4 years old. There is a Memorial plaque which recognises my existence but I would still have liked to have become a Person. A grown up. Please Always Remember Me. Never Forget I am Albert Finkelstein.” Albert Finkelstein.

While the continuous predicament for European Jewry grew, Jews became more acutely aware of the hopelessness of their own worsening situation. Whether this awareness grew immediately from the resounding rhetoric of Hitler’s 1920’s speeches or from the burgeoning detail of the atrocity railed against the Jews of Germany, then Austria and the Czech lands throughout the 1930’s, The Holocaust itslef fully emerged prior to History’s giving of its accepted term. As Hitler’s clear and Final Solution of the Jewish Question was delivered to the broader Reich, the broadest element of the Reich itself took to it and delivered a cataclysmic resolve which has 6,000,000 Jews interred, confined to spaces no longer known to History, let alone to the Jews who wish to remember the passing of their People.

“..I don’t know secret for long life. I believe that everything is determined from above and we shall never know ..reasons why. There have been smarter ..stronger ..better looking men then me who are no longer alive. All that is left for us to do is to keep on working as hard as we can and rebuild what is lost.” Yisrael Kristal.

The destructive reality of what Hitler had envisaged came far too late for all too many of these Jews of Europe, given a hopeless choice which clearly did not exist to live past Hitler’s intention to deprive them of life itself. Perceptibly, this suggestion of hopelessness is brought into life again and even in novel form it appears so as to transfix these Jews in time. In one such novel, there is that same symmetry between Anne Frank and where a writer details a life within the space of the atrocity and where bruno berates us with the sending away of gretel. Here, because she too was to be considered:

“..a Hopeless case.” striped pyjamas. 2006.

we have an historical relevance from Anne Frank’s very own Diary to borrow from. For anyone concerned with the full tenets of The Holocaust, or any of its sprawling aspects, its full certainty is neither open to debate nor delivered toward any contention. Nor should The Holocaust be positioned in any interpretation other than the occurrence of its factual nature. Perhaps some novel lessons are carefully contrived though, so by the time themes are adopted or words become borne by a newer narrative, we are moved toward an understanding along that very same road toward where we need to know and comprehend its fullest range of hate and atrocity. Here, where the Jewish People are met with rage and annihilation, there is little room for other than the positive aspects of research to give them a more meaningful place of respect.

“..I find myself standing at ..gates of Auschwitz. For it was there that my great-grandparents ..Moshe and Tzirel Herman ..and Yekusiel and Rivka Plattner ..were murdered ..leaving behind no graves at which to pray and meditate ..merely a few nameless fragments of bone and ash that have long since been swallowed by ..earth of that cursed ..hallowed place.” Suri Cohen.

The Holocaust is in fact a hallowed space, a place so attached to the Memory of 6,000,000 Murdered Jews, which manages still to live on, we cannot bar its way with deflection. We know that the lesson from the striped pyjamas was so ill learned by too many, as it is interpreted so wrongly that it becomes contentious to Jewish Memory. In the gassing of the kommandants Son, it was not damning enough of the extermination process as a whole, and became an opening to the interpretation which saw the gassing of that one individual Child as a singular wrong and not as a collective affront to our humanity. As the terror grips those inside, we should be fixed on the idea that our entire civilisation is exploding before our eyes and atrocity is the precursor to what will inevitably drive this World forward

“..reacting to something that has exploded on ..national conscience ..The Holocaust.” Raul Hilberg.

But this illegitimacy over the over use of The Holocaust as a term of reference for anyone seeking to re-read the writings of those who Survived, those who certainly did not Survive or even those who have left us with a void in relation to their eternal presence in the catastrophe, this must not be confused by musings over narratives. This essential need to bring forth the memory of those whose own memory in extent within the destruction cannot be contrived to present an image which is illusionary. What is even more provocative, so as to strengthen the continuing causal debate over all and any accusation is this misuse of these Jews as an exercise in plaintive terms, unrelated to the truly shocking detail which consumed them. Certainly we accept the accusation of the personnel involved must fully extend to all those who remain complicit in the atrocity, but in terms which mark the destruction conducted by those responsible.

“..There is much to be done ..there is much that can be done. One person ..a Raoul Wallenberg ..an Albert Schweitzer ..one person of integrity ..can make a difference ..a difference of life and death. As long as one dissident is in prison ..our freedom will not be true. As long as one child is hungry ..our lives will be filled with anguish and shame. What all these victims need above all is to know that they are not alone ..that we are not forgetting them ..that when their voices are stifled we shall lend them ours ..that while their freedom depends on ours ..quality of our freedom depends on theirs.” Elie Wiesel.

The accusation of History must especially apply to all of those duplicitous in any way and for those others both seeking to diminish or desensitise The Holocaust relevance. As a reminder too of what we have lost, we must protect the names of some 4,700,000 of these Murdered Jews and hopefully we will lead on toward knowing who all 6,000,000 Murdered Jews are. Elie Wiesel informed me personally, that I must not enter into this arena with other than the factual integrity inherent in the Truth of the Slaughter. So with that in mind, all x4 of my Books I hope and feel, were born with truth, honesty and an integrity belonging to 6,000,000 Murdered Jews. However, and for there is still a narrative discourse which might still overlay itself the crime of BabiYar, and this has halted a work of mine as it causes me concerns.

“..We had different measures of time ..we different ones. ..because of our difference were condemned once again.” Ida Fink.

As I struggle with the evocative horror of The Holocaust in general and here at BabiYar in particular, away from those being different for my own difference, I am mindful of what separated those declared different and for murderous intentions. Attached to an historic resonance, the detail of the the Slaughter process can always be added to. Here too, and while I balk at the mere mention of wilkomirski, a fragment of whose integrity is totally debased, and I have no wish to relay the deviant nature of the words it contains, I am using words which will afford memory a more concerted promise than false words, biased words or lies. The truth is the only evocation that will ensure the finality for the existence of these 6,000,000 Jews is deep in meaning and relevant to us taking this World forward.

“..A good hearted female doctor was trying to hide my Child ..Mengele found her without effort. Eva’s feet were full of sore wounds. ..He transported his human material to ..Krematorium on yellow colored trucks.” Agnes Zsolt.

What any such works adds to the broadening struggle to remember must surely condemn the lies of those who demean the very nature of an intolerable evil done against innocent People for being Jewish People. So for me, to ensure the regularity and consistency of the truth is maintained, all factual relevance must be truthfully correct. Agreed, I borrow words which present meaning to the missing from those who save the memory of those they have truly lost. I am much identified with a curious derision for being outside the wounded of Judaism, whose suffering is spelled out harmfully, but with no desire to issue any further harm. But for those who know Eva Heyman’s last moments were directed by one such as Mengele, I feel the pain, I too feel the anger and I too am shamed that this could be done.

“..I was ..not telling ..story of ..Holocaust ..but a Holocaust story ..Lale and Gita Sokolov’s story.” tatooist. 2018.

Of course there are victories to be had, and the story of Lale Sokolov and Gisela Furman is indeed one of those. It is as a love story borne out of the misery of Auschwitz that hope can still be instilled and even gained. Here, even in Auschwitz and Birkenau, in fact in all x6 Death Camps in Poland, simple choices could still be made. Even though any choice at all was to be made as directed within those given parameters left over from the destructive intention, the intention to destroy was never negated. That intention too was written in the form of a tattoo which limited the extended life of those Jews of Auschwitz. Here, for Jews whose furlow there was always ahead of the antechamber to Birkenau’s destructive capacity, a choice to be made could never prevail over what had always been clearly intended for the Jews who entered here.

“..If you woke up and were alive ..it was a good day.” Lale Sokolov.

Hope was always a choice and love could be forged from that hopeful desire to Survive on what could still be perceived as a good day. However, what we might borrow then from The Holocaust is only ever pertinent to the factual truth and its integrity. This usage of the Catastrophe to embellish the narrative or alter the perception of its direction must not deviate the course of a principled study of research. We must always remain vigilant and consistent with what is always going to be missing from the pages of history and these are the 6,000,000 Jewish lives, Jewish Men, Jewish Women and Their Jewish Children. How one is supposed to relate the facts of this sudden impactful change upon their very existence is best left to those who can equate it with the terms of reference appropriate to what actually happened to them.

“..on July 12 th. 1942 at 3:00 am ..our lives changed forever. ..forced ..to leave our apartment. ..only a few belongings ..we walked miles until we reached a truck depot. ..my family and 1,000’s of Jews were crammed on to trucks ..driven to ..Paris sports stadium ..spent several days without food and water. ..smell was horrific. No one knew what was going on.” Cecile Kaufer.

Of course the intention of the fragmentary pyjama or tatooist novella must be mindful of that regard for a history which fully relies upon what truth seeks to Remember. For 6,000,000 Murdered Jewish Men, Women and Their Children consumed within an all too often expressed intention, dilution of that more than obvious intention is an intolerable affront to these 6,000,000 Jewish memories. Reference points in any narrative that suggests other than the final demand of Hitler was to destroy all Jews within Europe must not gain any source toward resonance. The ugly truth of a demand which sought out for Slaughter these Jewish People is unequivocal in its certainty and there is no need to distinguish words from that fact. The last word becmes the commencement of all regards The Holocaust, a body taken fro us who stands so tall in pointing us frward and in the right direction.

“..A bundle of contradictions was ..end of my previous letter and is ..beginning of this one.” Anne Frank. Tuesday August 1st. 1944.

Yom HaShoah

Reflections Posted on Wed, April 11, 2018 23:33:54

If we just consider what Yom HaShoah is all about, and Remember in the very detail of the gravest atrocity to assail all of Humanity, we will recognise that some 1,500,00 Jewish names are still missing, unknown now to all of History. On April 12th. April 2018, as the World should come to realise what is meant by what is in fact missing, and Israel will know what was taken more than 6,000,000 times over, the Jewish World will recognise our willingness to accept our great wrong. So on the day itself please place ALL the names of those Jews which The Holocaust has interred and make their memory known to us all. YadVashem has made it clear, the day will be about Remembrance so list your names and we can all be made aware of Your loss.

https://forms.yadvashem.org/read-names

Such loss, now amounting to our loss also will never be understood as other than a Jewish atrocity, given the terms which has been applied to The Final Solution of The Jewish Question. There will be those of you who will seek out a fuller audience to remark the absence of those now lost, and I would suggest you contact YadVashem on this page, and make your feelings known. For those, like myself, who will wish to Remember the names of those we have come to reflect upon here together, if you wish to place the names on My Post and I will add them all to what I have always sought. As you read their names they are being Remembered and they will not be forgotten as these mainly Jewish Children who were not allowed to reach their full potential, confront ours.

While many of these names have been presented to you all in words I have already blended alongside them, it is for us, here and now Always to Remember, Never to Forget.

I am Who I am

Reflections Posted on Tue, February 20, 2018 21:11:40

The question has been raised so I guess it validates the reason for an answer. It is true many of you do not know me, in Person. Some do! Many of you have yet to discover me through the Books I have placed upon The Holocaust shelf, since 2002. My monthly Blog, since 2014 has been with many of you, who followed me through the strains of a ‘youtube’ irreverence toward The Holocaust, and yet, there is a question which suggests I might not be who I say I am.

For that question, and My Publisher allows me his Server to communicate My Blog to those interested in understanding my meaning, I will respond. I answer the many questions to My Books in Private to avoid the Copyright infringements this would occasion. Then there are those who communicate through the my Publisher to the Blog, which I gladly answer.

Now there is a very good reason why I do not give anymore information about who I am than I thought was necessary. Tonight! I will take what I have just written, and mix it with the last post on

‘The level of abuse’

and connect them together to deliver a sample of what goes into My Blog. My integrity must not be doubted if I am to deliver a clear and honest representation of what The Holocaust means to me, and my on-going relationship with those 6,000,000 Jews, who are The Holocaust.

I will finish this later, post it here and then, to My Blog so that at least My Books, My Blog and My Person are connected here in Remembering Always to Remember, Never to Forget. In so many respects Testimony and Fading Memory in The Holocaust delivers us toward an understanding of how der Einsatzgruppe and The Destruction of European Jewry could be so enormous as seen in Babi Yar A Jewish Catastrophe. But Hitler moved The Final Solution along toward an industrialised killing machine exemplified in his Death Camps of which Hitler’s Belzec was indeed a deadly space for Galician Jewry.

Here though, the level of abuse which seeks to attract itself to the Memory of 6,000,000 Jews, wrongly Murdered by an ostensibly ‘christian’ community of peoples no longer shocks nor surprises me. Nor does it facilitate my observance of other than the effort I manage to consider worthy of 6,000,000 Jews, Murdered because we were too complacent with their lives and indifferent to their suffering.

I completely get, and very well appreciate the reason why so many would wish to conceal this truth. How could it have happened? Why did it happen? How was it we allowed it to happen. These questions highlight the savage nature of mankind’s inhumanity toward those considered different, whose observance of other ideals or who pronounce a Faith we have no appreciation of, should be allowed to do so!

So for all of who seek to detract me from my effort. Your vitriol allows me the thought processes to enter words which counter the revulsion I feel for anyone who would trample upon the graves of 6,000,000 wholly innocent Jews. These Jews were destroyed under foot and interred wherever Hitler’s foot soldiers traipsed.

But for those of You who Survived the already brutal attempt to deliver The Final Solution, I apologise on behalf of these ignorant, racist and irrelevant people who have no fundamental right to their hatred. My task has always made it difficult reading for those of you who search, as I do for Comprehension. This understanding is clearly known by the Survivor, for who my Books continue to add to their efforts in reminding us!

Empathy in Holocaust Terms.

Empathy in Holocaust terms.

Words are so often misused and the art of the Historian, who is considered expert when, in the delivery of the science of History, presents his words empathetically and is sympathetic to the relationship of delivery. Empathy is one such word which when delivered with truth, honesty and with its integrity intact will deliver posthumously for 6,000,000 Murdered Jews, a remembrance they deserve. That said, the historian is at times dispassionate and also somewhat aloof from the turmoil that has to be presented. A student of their chosen field which they have sought to be recognised historically, and one which is related to an observance of the very parameters and the essential constructs to be searched and researched, is a sort after disciple. The vital ingredient of that scholarly effort is for me the blending of the period of my concern, through which but a tiny fragment of a time, in which the most immense crime ever staged and committed against any within Humanity has been titled The Holocaust. This is both a murderous theme and shocking.

The term, The Holocaust has in itself an immense and emotional propensity to shock and make anxious those whose steely determination remains proportionate to the demands fencing in the promoting of the bare facts. The honest truth and knowledge that is to be gained from the broadest spectrum of testimony and evidential awareness, is sacrosanct. The duration of this tragedy, where murder was commonplace, where destruction was a daily occurrence and the Jews of Europe were treated terminally, is now eternal in our recollection. The chronological order terrorising Jews, and others, ranged the entire period of Hitler’s rise to power and his demise, barely 13 years. We therefore place on record all evidences which ensure the integrity of that very testimony as it verifies and confirms the account explored. Almost complete analysis of the period has delivered an essential archive of intimate accounts which all feature in accusing the most horrendous criminals of the most appalling crimes ever committed against innocent People for being Jewish. An old saying that measures the capacity to disenfranchise people in the legislative procedure, and that would:

‘drive a Horse and Carriage’

through its effort to act judicially, do so as it fails its People. In Poland, such is the sheer lack of empathy toward its own Murdered Jewish Community that the government of Poland is representing its own feelings too ably and has enacted this:

“..Whoever publicly and untruthfully assigns responsibility or co-responsibility to ..Polish nation or ..Polish state for Nazi crimes committed by ..Third German Reich or for other crimes constituting crimes against peace ..crimes against humanity ..or war crimes ..or in some other way markedly diminishes ..responsibility of ..true perpetrators of these crimes is subject to a fine or imprisonment for up to 3 years.”

Firstly! The Holocaust Murder of 6,000,000 Jewish People is a wholly constructed Hitlerite rage and plan. However, whoever participated, perpetrated or otherwise assisted Hitler’s efforts, are also guilty in the most heinous series of crimes ever imaginable in All of History. That Hitler’s intention for The Final Solution to the Jewish Question cannot disavow anyone of their moral responsibility to object to such tenets as are criminally reprehensible, is accountable to Human civilisation. Those coerced to act unlawfully are fully complicit in the crimes they undertake. In Poland that is equally true. Where once the refrain of Judaism was an acculturated, learned and essential Literature of words and tales, and all through the Century’s, the echoes once absorbing the Hassidim was poetic with religious propensity, while lyrical and well versed in its content. This has all but disappeared. The essence of Jewish learning was practically eliminated as Hitler’s legions drove a disgruntled discourse through all the civilising influences of both Judaism and Western culture.

Where once the Poem and the Poet were equally matched, the subsiding influence of poetry has not been awakened to any large degree by 6,000,000 Jewish losses. Though invariably, there are those whose proponent parts are both featured lyrically and empathetically and equally versed and directed toward all that has been lost to us, we are still absent of so much. Both in the Literal and Literary sense, the World has come to recognise much of what is now missing. From the lines and stanzas of words that have a now distant and hollow echo from lives taken, lives discarded and oh too many of them destroyed as we look to the detail and scraps of evidence of a past that lay destroyed. Yet in our midst the discord is largely unrecorded. Perhaps the poem which shaped my interest, which brought down borders in Jewish Literary matters, as they clearly relate to The Holocaust, is Yevgeny Yevtushenko’s phenomenal work on Babi Yar.

Babi-Yar

No monument stands over Babi-Yar. It seems to me that I am Anna Frank,

A steep cliff only, like the rudest headstone. Transparent, as the thinnest branch in April,

I am afraid. And I’m in love, and have no need of phrases,

Today, I am as old But only that we gaze into each other’s eyes.

As the entire Jewish race itself. How little one can see, or even sense!

Leaves are forbidden, so is sky,

I see myself an ancient Israelite. But much is still allowed -very gently

I wander o’er the roads of ancient Egypt In darkened rooms each other to embrace.

And here, upon the cross, I perish, tortured

And even now, I bear the marks of nails. They come!

No, fear not those are sounds

It seems to me that Dreyfus is myself. Of spring itself.

The Philistines betrayed me – and now judge. She’s coming soon.

I’m in a cage. Surrounded and trapped, Quickly, your lips!

I’m persecuted, spat on, slandered, and They break the door!

The dainty dollies in their Brussels frills No, river ice is breaking.

Squeal, as they stab umbrellas at my face.

Wild grasses rustle over Babi-Yar,

I see myself a boy in Belostok The trees look sternly, as if passing judgement.

Blood spills, and runs upon the floors, Here, silently, all screams, and, hat in hand,

The chiefs of bar and pub rage unimpeded I feel my hair changing shade to gray.

And reek of vodka and of onion, half and half.

And I myself, like one long soundless scream

I’m thrown back by a boot, I have no strength left, Above the thousands of thousands interred,

In vain I beg the rabble of pogrom, I’m every old man executed here,

To jeers of “Kill the Jews, and save our Russia! As I am every child murdered here.

My mother’s being beaten by a clerk.

No fiber of my body will forget this.

O, Russia of my heart, I know that you May Internationale thunder and ring

Are international, by inner nature. When, for all time, is buried and forgotten

But often those whose hands are steeped in filth The last of antisemites on this earth.

Abused your purest name, in name of hatred.

There is no Jewish blood that’s blood of mine,

I know the kindness of my native land. But, hated with a passion that’s corrosive

How vile, that without the slightest quiver Am I by antisemites like a Jew.

The antisemites have proclaimed themselves And that is why I call myself a Russian!

The Union of the Russian People!” Yevgeny Yevtushenko.

(Yevgeny Yevtushenk, if we are to Remember him best is a Russian who witnessed the iniquity in the failed acknowledgement that Babi-Yar was, then we recognise with him THE most single and barbarous atrocity for the Jewish People within their Holocaust. This will be reflected and it should be with his words that: “..Poetry is like a bird ..it ignores all frontiers.” Yevgeny Yevtushenko.)

I also included this entire Poem in my Book Babi Yar – A Jewish Catastrophe in an effort to share with the reader the distance we have travelled from Yevgeny’s acknowledgement of the catastrophe. When we first sought to ignore, when we thought to forget or when there was an emerging attempt to dismiss the Jewish presence in The Holocaust, few chose to adjust the overall imbalance. As to where acknowledgement is grudgingly given, and still to this day that is so, we look for many ways to heighten the concern we all must have for what 6,000,000 should not have been forced to endure. That said, there are enough people in this world who would not credit the Jews with anything, let alone a life worthy of living. For Jews, filled with fear, sheltering from the threat of abuse or assigned a fate they will not choose, we must come to the fore to resist the tide of an historical hatred that has been rendered illegitimate. Any categorical excuse to rail against the individual must be seen for its inadequacy, and on out part, an intolerable indictment of our past indifference.

Shipment to Maidanek. (Majdanek)

Arrived from scattered cities, several lands,

intact from sea land, mountain land, and plain,

Item: six surgeons, slightly mangled hands,

Item: three poets, hopelessly insane,

Item: a Russian mother and her child,

the former with five gold teeth and usable shoes,

the latter with seven dresses, peasant-styled.

Item: another hundred thousand Jews.

Item: a crippled Czech with a handmade crutch.

Item: a Spaniard with a subversive laugh;

seventeen dozen Danes, nine gross of Dutch.

Total: precisely a million and a half.

They are sorted and marked – the method is up to you.

The books must be balanced, the disposition stated.

Take care that all accounts are neat and true.

Make sure that they are thoroughly cremated.” Ephraim Fogel.

(Ephraim Fogel Escaped from Russia in the 1920’s and has been assigned a literary attribute shared here. He served in US Army from 1942 – 1946)

For me though, and I tire endlessly at the concept of a Jew judging incorrectly a fellow Jew who had but x2 choices in the midst of Hitler’s Holocaust, to die or to live long enough to die later. I will not denigrate the memory of anyone who saved a single Jew, let alone anyone who saved Jews residing in their darkest hours and so saving 100’s or even 1,000’s. I do not understand, when there are already so many non-Jews wishing to curse the memory of 6,000,000 Murdered Jews, why should any Jew allow for some personal enmity to gift further the rancid nature of antisemitic hatred. The purveyor’s of such a hatred do not need any assistance from anyone else, least of all from any Jews who do not see the Universe that was saved, and in its entirety. And as it was saved from certain annihilation, we must explore the reaches of those lost to us who have but a simple message added to our cause Always to Remember, Never to Forget.

Smoke Rose

“..Smoke

rose

in the garden

God watched

from above,

and fear walked

in the cool

of the day.” Itamar Yaoz-Kest.

(Itmar Yaoz-Kest is a Hungarian Survivor and his amble through Belsen is a reminder that so much Smoke consumed so much Jewish Humanity, that we are ill advised to forget.)

It is essential we recognise that while Ephraim Fogel was one such Poet who managed to offer us an insight into one of Hitler’s x6 Death Camps, established by Hitler in German occupied Poland, many other’s are exploring the reaches just outside the Destructive process. Then when we think of the range of emotion which might encompass shame, guilt and grief, and I have before me more than 500,000 pages filled with words which exemplify all of these monuments to inhumanity, I search for other’s who will qualify their meaning. I have no idea what it must be to be a Jew, but I can imagine it takes an extraordinary Human Being to see much in Humanity that still exists after what we allowed to happen to 6,000,000 of their People. Now I might just have you consider why I feel guilt at all about something which happened decades before I was born. But Humanity does not allow for us to ignore what was done to a People simply because we were not born, or we were actually alive though remote from the perpetration. Perhaps even, we remained absent and outside of the very detail of the atrocity seeking to look in to expand our knowledge of such hatred. We each have Parents, Grandparents and some lucky enough to have Great Grandparents, and their past actions have so shaped and influenced how we adjust and perceive our own life, continually attached to the rest of all Humanity. For many German’s, they have but an inkling of what their own lineage achieved in adopting Hitler’s principle to Mass Murder the Jews, and any other’s he might have taken a dislike to.

Could Have

It could have happened.

It had to happen.

It happened earlier. Later.

Nearer. Farther off.

It happened, but not to you.

You were saved because you were the first.

You were saved because you were the last.

Alone. With others.

On the right. The left.

Because it was raining. Because of the shade.

Because the day was sunny.

You were in luck — there was a forest.

You were in luck — there were no trees.

You were in luck — a rake, a hook, a beam, a brake,

A jamb, a turn, a quarter-inch, an instant . . .

So you’re here? Still dizzy from

another dodge, close shave, reprieve?

One hole in the net and you slipped through?

I couldn’t be more shocked or

speechless.

Listen,

how your heart pounds inside me.” Wislawa Szymborska.

(Wislawa Szymborska was born in Poland in 1923 and is a Nobel Prize winner for her Literature.)

Hitler was not an empathetic person, had no sympathy for Humanity and raged against common decency on every level. That said, the Jew knows what happened to 6,000,000 of their People. The Jew knows what we allowed to happen to 6,000,000 of their People. The collective guilt of a so called ‘christian’ founded resentment, a deep seated hatred and an eventual willingness to Slaughter these 6,000,000 Jews, throws up far too many questions than those answers which are both necessary to comprehension and acknowledgement. The human World threw its allegiance behind a series of hatred’s that have permeated the Historical arena for more than 2,000 years and has allowed states to disrupt, disregard and destroy the Jewish People at no seeming cost to their own moral nor ethical countenance. Here, and while we deal in huge numbers, statistics can never be a correct format for what is a very Human loss of People, and is a loss too to the rest of Humanity. Nor can such mathematical statements or formulae become the arbiter of a human atrocity so enormous, we have difficulty imagining its terrifying ordeal.

Psalm

No one kneads us again from earth and loam,

no one evokes our dust.

No one.

Praised be you, no one.

Because of you we wish

to bloom.

Against

you.

A nothing

were we, are we, will

we be, blossoming:

the nothing’s-, the no ones rose.

With

its pistil soul bright,

its stamen heaven crazed,

its crown red

from the purple word that we sang

over, o over

its thorn. Paul Celan.

(Paul Celan was born in Czernowitz, Bukovina in 1920. In 1942 Paul saw his parents deported to Auschwitz. He survived The Holocaust confined to many camps but Paul never truly recovered from the losses. He committed suicide in 1970.)

Significantly, The Holocaust term has been borne on the mantle of Historical account to not only contain this emphasis for loss but to curtail a devastation which would damn all too much of human civilisation. 6,000,000 Murdered Jews of Europe are such an atrocity, which must audibly resonate with accusation and a measure of empathetic sympathy for a beleaguered and brutally destroyed community, that we should all we hear its call from the distance and pain so many People were forced to endure. The atrocity itself cannot be judged with such terms as would allow for the human enormity of the annihilation of a People. Moreover, and simply because they were Jewish People, we cannot allow for this to become deflecting from the fullest human dimension of loss. Indeed, how can any mathematical dissertation convey the terror and horror fully experienced by 6,000,000 Murdered Human Beings. How then can we redefine our own humanity on the basis of this severing of any cultural, ethical or moral probity which had supposedly established our former civilisation. Had we too been given no manner of choice would we too have been guillotined from existence. Perhaps, just perhaps, as non-Jews we would have been more favourably treated and then eternally rewarded in more favourable terms as to how we are to be remembered.

“..Had I died when I had no choice it would not have allowed others freely to cease my existence. No one has ..right to select inappropriate timing for me to leave my life behind. Perhaps this is childish foolishness but now I will not be allowed to progress beyond ..not yet Adult fool I might have planned to be.” Anonymous.

(Anonymous and from the depths of The Holocaust).

Remembering that with such a measured and constructed intolerance, 6,000,000 Jews were allowed to be Slaughtered with little protest from the World standing along the ridges of total indifference. I look constantly for what might inspire those others of us to begin their own recollection and connection with these, the Jews who are The Holocaust. We gaze either willingly or not on a past we have yet to comprehend fully. From that period there was a poetry which has become an undernourished medium as it presents itself to us today. But in the midst of an approaching doom, and as the terms of The Holocaust escalated, adding words to those messages we were to inherit, this has motivated so many conflicted and endangered Jews to add in prose, the lessons we have yet to fully contend with. We have been given all too many graven images and these attack our conscience and conscious reckoning. With words which once flourished, mighty tomes have been consigned to the same abandoned ash which was a formerly a representative body of 6,000,000 Jewish People. But we have many examples of the style and emphasis placed in words to come from beyond their grave to consult our impression of the deepest rift ever to refute humanity itself.

“..We have to be tolerant. I don’t care if you’re Catholic ..Muslim or something else ..as long as you’re a decent human being. That’s really what it is.” Alexander Kimel.

(Alexander Kimel was born in Podhaje, Galicia and lived in Ghetto of Rohatyn, where some 9,900 of the 10,000 Ghetto Jews were Murdered. Alexander escaped May 1943 and is a Survivor.)

In essence, the usage of words to promote tolerance has been largely conducted through Books, forgotten statements and simple pamphlets wishing to inform us. With poems that are so well measured and offering such a depth perception, we have largely failed to study them. They have become the lexicon of abbreviated cries, shrieks of despair all detailing the abandonment of a People on the cusp of a faltering society unwilling to protect them. Meanwhile, it is essential to identify the ownership of a work quoted so we know who delivers them to us. It is also important for me to recognise that in the depths of The Holocaust, identity was meant to be shredded alongside those Jews to be physically destroyed. Usually, and in the midst of societies all too willing to look the other way, words were constructed in defiance to such an intolerable indifference. Here, in this use of words to describe the atrocity, and I am not an advocate of Poetry as such, but merely as their usage of the words used to convey the factual truth we have sought, we come to recognise an epoch altering atrocity. The carefully scaled words, while they balance our appreciation of the lengths to which so many went to, to deliver us the example we clearly have not awoken to, we grasp an urgency which was limiting in the context of time that was being denied to all these Jewish People.

There is a Last, Solitary Coach.

There is a last, solitary coach about to leave.

Let us get in and go.

For it won’t wait.

I have seen young girls going softly

With sad faces

That looked ashamed and sorry

Like purple sunsets.

And chubby, pink children

Who went simply

Because they were called.

And I’ve seen men

Who stepped proud and straight through the world’s streets,

Whose large eyes went ranging

Far and wide,

They too got in calmly

And left.

And we are the last.

Day is declining.

The last, solitary coach is about to leave.

Let us too get in quietly

And go,

For it won’t wait. David Vogel.

(David Vogel was a Russian Jew taken in 1944 and Murdered somewhere?)

One of my all time favourite songs, and music is both a simple pleasure and a much needed resort in the midst of the turmoil, has to be Sympathy for the Devil by The Rolling Stones. But, it is with the words which engaged me so many years before I lasted onto The Holocaust, that I learned from sympathy that empathy escalates us toward awakenings as better beings of human stature. I learned candidly from lyrics that we can make bold statements and when we state the things that matter, we can articulate all manner of concerns. At the time of my awakening to the loss of 6,000,000 People, and as I so often digested words to find their meaning, I did not realise I would find World War II and The Holocaust as a refrain that entered my head with this song. But, and my resolution to affix some form of literary concern to such an enormous Tragedy, Catastrophe and Atrocity did emerge. Those initial struggles with words allowed for an empathy that was guided toward an annihilated Jewish People. I found a solid grounding and from which I have layered this platform of mine with the words that would devour so meanings, 6,000,000 reasons await some form of resonance with the horrible details still to emerge.

“..I rode a tank

Held a General’s rank

When ..Blitzkrieg raged

And ..bodies stank.” The Rolling Stones.

However, there is a truth to be had in that all Roads do lead in the one direction and nominally, this is to the place we wish to be. Again, and while this might sound like an opportunity to direct myself toward those words which have become meaningful to me, and they are and they do, they just might inspire the definitive direction for others. This route, which I have traversed now for more than x20 years does not letup as I seek future comprehension from an immeasurable conflict with an immensely detailed narrative view. Pleased to meet you (was said), (with a) Hope that you guess my name. But what’s puzzling you, is the nature of my game and that particular game has more than 1,500,000 Jewish Children’s souls amongst these 6,000,000 Murdered Jews of Europe, who are literally far too anonymous to History. In these first few words are the lyrics to a song I have devoured time and time again and long before I knew much of The Holocaust term, let alone the very detail aspects of its atrocity, Music so consoled my soul and filled my heart with measures of meaning. I have had my senses so warmed, they remain my release from the troublesome detail of atrocity which spared not one single Jews, but consumed 6,000,000 of them anyway.

Race.

When I returned to my home town

who I was and what I thought

it was as if the people caught

in imagination seen

the gas-chamber the mass-grave

the unknown body which was mine

I will not make their thoughts my own

by hating people for their race. Karen Gershon.

(Karen Gershon escaped The Holocaust on the Kindertransport while her Parents, deported to Riga did not.)

The strains of riffs and themes of music so touched my heart like so much poetry and as poetry still resonates with literary minded people, its eloquence has so ensnared me. For their effort, I can use words lyrically to share my concerns and with a passion for their usage. Here, poetry is far too often all we have left of so many, wholly consumed within the atrocity. Now that I seek their words to define, and it is their absence from us which needs defining, I reconnect somehow with their past. In words which might not seem like they factually accumulate the despairing horror that is every day encountered, a poet can so often give their finer words to share a scene which could all too easily pass us by. What words may choose to devastate us must be sought out of the carnage of hate we now wish to confront. But we escape the language of confrontation and know their indelible process has been weighed down with such an immense horror, how are we to describe what we consider must have been truly terrifying. Life does not offer us too many glimpses into a past so riven with despair, that the sheer atrocity would seek to consume us too if we did not have historical distance to qualify us for our present day travails.

“..driving of women ..children into ..marshes did not have ..expected success ..marshes ..not so deep ..one could sink. After ..meter ..solid ground. ..Ukrainian clergy ..very co-operative and ..available for every Aktion. ..population ..on good terms with ..Jewish sector of ..population. Nevertheless ..helped energetically in rounding up ..Jews. ..locally recruited guards ..Polish police ..former Polish soldiers ..made a good impression. ..total number ..shot by ..Mounted Units ..6,526.” SS Sturmbannfuhrer Franz Magill.

(Franz Magill led a troop of the Dirlewanger brigade)

We cannot look upon accounts of such atrocity without the feeling of shame which must have been so missing from those whose empathy was kept secreted deeper inside them than should be humanly possible. But here, we merely dip our toe into the swelter of words whose poisoning influence must become adapted to ensure the positive lessons which tolerance must give. This is the essence in which empathy strikes at the core of all belief systems and clearly manifests itself in the detail which has grown to shock, frighten and scare humanity. But clearly the world is not shocked enough as there are many who will now defend the indifferent attitude of their nations during the most horrendous period in all history. The Holocaust Slaughter of 6,000,000 Jews of Europe has no humanitarian borders but exists within the psyche of who we are and who we wish to be. Worryingly too, especially in a country like Poland, where 3,000,000 of its own Citizens were butchered because they were Jews, some seek to shift responsibility and apportion blame onto some others. Though notably guilty of many crimes, these others, be they Estonian, French, Latvian, Lithuanian or Ukrainian, all are equally as guilty as any Pole who divested themselves of any moral probity in their conduct toward their fellows, who just happened to have been Jews.

“..Reminiscences make a sad ..depressing literature.” Januscz Korczak.

(Januscz Korczak was born in Warsaw. Renowned the World over for his refusal to abandon His 200 charges, the Children from the orphanage to Treblinka. On August 6th. 1942 Korczak, with Stefania Wilczynska, Broniatowska and Sternfeld leading x4 Columns of Children left their sanctuary at 16 Sienna Street, their fate sealed.)

This sought out effort to ensure the light of reminiscence by some is cast aside in order to ensure the deeds of some former nationals do not shine brightly upon the truth of the many forms of collaboration, does not abrogate any responsibility. This process of shifting blame is seemingly their sought after deflection in order to negate the obvious collusion and collaboration by some of their own nations with these deeds of Hitler and his cronies. It is possible, with recalling here what Januscz Korczak reflects upon, and in fully reminiscing their loss, we have too detailed an atrocity to make it at all palatable to accept when far too many had a responsibility for the constituting effects of the overall atrocity. This means also that any form of denial by any who might have constituted a guilt for the atrocity’s perpetration, must be questionable. Those aligned with the gravest intolerance’s toward their Jewish Neighbours, or were merely effortless in the seeming indifference they had shown to the destruction of the Jews, cannot be tolerable. All of these effects, which was so obviously being undertaken, belongs to those nations and their nationals who assisted, aided, abetted or helped in destroying a fully fledged humanity designed in Jewish attire.

(Anonymous and unfinished from the depths of The Holocaust)

Here, as the political emphasis after this, a Second World War sought to assuage so much guilt and secrete all too much of the atrocity, the ‘general’s of rank’, the politicians of measure and the people of consequence all emerged unscathed from what they knew of the more than 1,250,000 shot Jewish bodies, which must have stank as they sank into shallow holes and hideaways. This does not even meet the criteria to be attached to those who continued daily life outside the gates of Auschwitz, Belzec, Birkenau, Chelmno, Majdanek, Sobibor and Treblinka. For me, as I stood in each of these Death Camps, fully established by Hitler in German occupied Poland, I too wonder, who could not know, who could not hear, who could not see and who could not have smelled the atrocity of so much burning flesh. In these x6 Death Camps alone, there were in excess of 4,000,000 Jews Murdered, interred, disinterred and cremated. The approved essential to disinter and then cremate what remained of such an atrocity must have appeared before countless German general’s who had been witnesses to the imaginable destruction they endorsed with their culpable silence. This truth does not belong to the integrity of a song either, but to the failings of History to stand squarely in favour of a justice for 6,000,000 Murdered Jews.

“..My mother survives in hiding and ..4 months before liberation she is turned over to ..Germans by a local Polish farmer. She is tied to a wagon and brought into town to ..German Gestapo ..and is shot in ..town cemetery.” Aaron E.

So as not to be lost in translation I copied both versions of Pavel’s Butterfly. The synthesis of the work is hardly disturbed and it is little consolation knowing the outcome of what awaited Pavel, whose Butterfly might easily have translated equally plausibly within Birkenau. What continually confronts us today is not just in the search of so missing a sympathy for what approached, what emerged and what destroyed 6,000,000 Jews of Europe, but the enormous shortage of empathy left reeling in its terrifying wake. Not that all concerned have failed to acknowledge The Holocaust is all a part of all human responsibility. But the distancing from its occurrence has a gained momentum and a blame culture which seeks to somehow exorcise certain national guilt’s. We are aware that for so long Germans placed their own guilt and its onus, on those fringe elements of German society, Gestapo and all too many rogue SS units.

The Butterfly.

He was the last. Truly the last.

Such yellowness was bitter and blinding

Like the sun’s tear shattered on stone.

That was his true colour.

And how easily he climbed, and how high,

Certainly, climbing, he wanted

To kiss the last of my world.

I have been here seven weeks,

‘Ghettoized’.

Who loved me have found me,

Daisies call to me,

And the branches also of the white chestnut in the yard.

But I haven’t seen a butterfly here.

That last one was the last one.

There are no butterflies, here, in the ghetto. Pavel Friedmann.

(Pavel Friedman was a 19 year old taken from Theresienstadt to Auschwitz on September 29th. 1944 and Murdered there.)

From here there is a process forward to where we attempt to link the atrocity to those who perpetrated the deed, but also to those whose presence, observance and knowledge permeate the perimeter of this destructive process. Those like the Dirlewanger or Kaminski brigade are what criminal elements can become for the excuse of nations to hide behind. Hitler of course, so intractable and convinced all criminals would deliver him his end result, the Destruction of all Jewry. We also have come to realise that the crimes of the supposed ‘elite’ Waffen SS and even Wehrmacht troops were more deeply embedded in the atrocity than has been fairly acknowledged. Now we hear more from all too many nationals who insist it was other nations who committed the crimes and not their. Be they Polish, Latvian or Ukrainians denials, each contributed a share to the overall guilt. Truth is! While some nations were more heavily involved and colluded or were collaborative, all collusion is collaboratively wrong. Any level of cooperation given to Hitler defames the name of any societal norms which include morality and ethics. With all things considered, there has been such an inconsistent sympathy for 6,000,000 Jewish losses, and as such, their memorials appear insincere.

The Action in the Ghetto of Rohatyn. (March 1942)

Do I want to remember?

The peaceful ghetto, before the raid:

Children shaking like leaves in the wind.

Mothers searching for a piece of bread.

Shadows, on swollen legs, moving with fear.

No, I don’t want to remember, but how can I forget?

Do I want to remember, the creation of hell?

The shouts of the Raiders, enjoying the hunt.

Cries of the wounded, begging for life.

Faces of mothers carved with pain.

Hiding Children, dripping with fear.

No, I don’t want to remember, but how can I forget?

Do I want to remember, my fearful return?

Families vanished in the midst of the day.

The mass grave steaming with vapor of blood.

Mothers searching for children in vain.

The pain of the ghetto, cuts like a knife.

No, I don’t want to remember, but how can I forget?

Do I want to remember, the wailing of the night?

The doors kicked ajar, ripped feathers floating the air.

The night scented with snow-melting blood.

While the compassionate moon, is showing the way.

For the faceless shadows, searching for kin.

No, I don’t want to remember, but I cannot forget.

Do I want to remember this world upside down?

Where the departed are blessed with an instant death.

While the living condemned to a short wretched life,

And a long tortuous journey into unnamed place,

Converting Living Souls, into ashes and gas.

No. I Have to Remember and Never Let You Forget. Alexander Kimel.

(Alexander Kimel was born in Podhaje, Galicia, lived in Ghetto of Rohatyn, where some 9,900 of the 10,000 Ghetto Jews were Murdered. Escaped May 1943 and is a Survivor.)

The moral dimensions of empathy on the whole too has been inadequate in replacing the negative effects of indifference permeating the very atrocity. Far too many today now seek to dilute, dispute and downright refute the terms of reference which seek to enclose the Jews in The Holocaust. The psychological emphasis, to design a string of quotients so as to assess whether one is empathetic or not forces an emotional trait into the hands of a science which cannot fully establish the fundamental and discerning voice of Human concern. We can iterate concern. We can suggest concern but it cannot be given a number and become acceptable to the Human condition. We each display a level of sympathy, or empathy, given our own understanding of what that entails. We may well propose to engage in a remembrance of the 6,000,000 Murdered Jews of The Holocaust, seeking a sympathy to empathise with their loss.

No blade of grass

No blade of grass

That tastes so sweet.

No patch of earth more bare.

To stave off pain to our hunger

No blade of grass so filling

In the cool cold air.

As we eat our fill

The dead fill our naked space

We live if we dare. Anonymous.

(Anonymous and from the depths of The Holocaust)

In the hands of Science, a cognitive tool will discern whether we have the correct methodology required to move away from what is our own reality. The memory for The Holocaust will immerse us in a place where we attempt to connect with those who stroll a different path. There are far too many confined to shedding responsibility and attempting to disown their guilt, there is a danger of unleashing a revisionist view of all History that cannot sustain any truthful narrative. As any christian who might call this the walking in the footsteps of the fisherman, and while utilising the lessons to be learned to benefit those other than oneself, humanity flourishes. Others would simply call this religious emphasis a moral grounding, an ethical understanding and even a charitable approach! For me though, empathy comes with having a sympathetic soul and allowing that sympathy to connect with those whose feelings have been touched by trauma. Also, and for those who are disconnected from Society or just need a calming influence, we have to reach out a hand!

First They Came For The Jews

“..First they came for the Jews

and I did not speak out

because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for the Communists

and I did not speak out

because I was not a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists

and I did not speak out

because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me

and there was no one left

to speak out for me.” Martin Niemoeller.

(Martin Niemoller was a German theological Minister and originally supported Hitler’s views, especially against the Jews. He served time in Both Dachau and Sachsenhausen and Dachau Concentration Camps.)

One can empathise out of concern and afford moral support for someone’s wounded feelings without even knowing the impact those feelings can have upon oneself. Emotional support rendered to those at the Death of a Parent is a way toward empathising! We can certainly sympathise with those losses and then empathise for what we too will know what that loss means to fellow Human Beings. We struck a systematic chord when I knew about such losses, and it was empathetic in as much as I could imagine the loss, feel the grief and was aware of the depth of the despair. All of that was fully visited upon me, so empathy came in advance of that knowledge and I am able to reflect the horror for you is the disgust I feel for those who could do this to so many People, and simply because they were Jews. I have therefore empathised before hand, due to that appreciation of what your loss certainly is and I recognise clearly the Jewish essence of it, and as loss comes to us all, it wasn’t long before my sympathy for your losses became an empathetic relevance!

How Can I see You, Love.

How can I see you, love,

Standing alone

Amid storms of grief

Without feeling my heart shake?

A deep night

Blacker than the blackness of your eyes,

Has fallen silently

On the world.

And is touching your curls.

Come,

My hand will clasp your dreaming

Hand,

And I shall lead you between the nights.

Through the pales mists of childhood,

As my father once guided me

To the house of prayer. David Vogel.

(David Vogel was a Russian Jew taken in 1944 and Murdered somewhere?)

That is why I stressed placing an emotional arm around the Survivor and the Jewish People as a whole! It was done as an understanding of what your communal need might be and as empathy is a sense of that feeling, it is in that chosen want to appreciate your overall sorrow. With 6,000,000 losses to mourn, my usage of non statistical terms, which is an understanding of the feelings you are faced with, can never replace the Human loss you face! We have a clearly defined empathy reached at as the understanding of an other’s situation, placing oneself in their ‘shoes’. While support is indeed a shoulder to cry on, that assist to shoulder a burden is as empathetic as it is genuine. One might not understand how a person feels but with any attempt to reach an understanding or imagine how sad or distraught a person might be is all part of an empathetic process.

“..Reformers come to a bad end. Only after their death do people see that they were right and erect monuments in their memory.” Janusz Korczak.

Somewhat prophetically, Janusz a reformer could not as yet foresee his role in distinguishing himself before Humanity and while it is too simplistic also to measure the effort in terms of the size of the task, 6,000,000 times over, Janusz Korczak has a measure beyond that. We might seek to follow in the steps of a giant amongst mankind, recognising that Janusz Korczak attains such an accolade. Some might consider Martin Luther King a giant amongst humanity and any attempt to appreciate what he sought to achieve or what he meant to people would stretch the emphasis of our empathetic understanding to find a relevance to The Holocaust. But great people do great things and to empathise with their failings makes the effort an ever more grandiose appreciation of the frailty we each secure in this life. Make no bones about it! We come this way but once. We touch Humanity in the blink of an eye and leave a footprint which shows us empathetic, sympathetic or one of life’s drifters through the banality of existence. What you each must choose to understand becomes the effort to reach an empathy with a fellow human being!

I Believe

I believe in the sun

even when it is not shining

And I believe in love,

even when there’s no one there.

And I believe in God,

even when he is silent.

I believe through any trial,

there is always a way

But sometimes in this suffering

and hopeless despair

My heart cries for shelter,

to know someone’s there

But a voice rises within me, saying hold on

my child, I’ll give you strength,

I’ll give you hope. Just stay a little while.

I believe in the sun

even when it is not shining

And I believe in love

even when there’s no one there

But I believe in God

even when he is silent

I believe through any trial

there is always a way.

May there someday be sunshine

May there someday be happiness

May there someday be love

May there someday be peace..” Anonymous.

(Anonymous and from the depths of The Holocaust. Possibly a French Jew? taken from a place of hiding in Cologne.)

We don’t need cliches or terms derived from science to appreciate that the delivery of some form of sympathy ensures an empathy towards another’s struggle, and this is a given! We sympathise and express a desire to simply understand, and hence we empathise! In the grand scheme of things we are negligible unless we reach an understanding of who we are, what we are and why we are who we have become! If we take the time to understand ourselves, we can dictate that understanding so that it resonates with those around us! We have such a short time to fashion anything other than a postscript to life. I am at a cross roads in my study of The Holocaust as to whether the World just did not care enough about the Jewish People, or did not care at all that 6,000,000 of them were being ritually Slaughtered. Now I am tired of those platitudes of concern, the vagaries of which even seek to diminish the term of The Holocaust. For me, and even from those who see in some religious connotation a missing protocol for Annihilation which Hitler fully presented to the World, we should hold firmly to the term which has hosted such a deep loss, its narrative is 6,000,000 Jews of Europe, Men, Women and Their Children who are The Holocaust.

The Butterfly

The last, the very last,

So richly, brightly, dazzlingly yellow.

Perhaps if the sun’s tears would sing

against a white stone…

Such, such a yellow

Is carried lightly ‘way up high.

It went away I’m sure because it wished

to kiss the world goodbye.

For seven weeks I’ve lived in here,

Penned up inside this ghetto

But I have found my people here.

The dandelions call to me

And the white chestnut candles in the court.

Only I never saw another butterfly.

That butterfly was the last one.

Butterflies don’t live in here,

In the ghetto. Pavel Friedmann.

(Pavel Friedman was a 19 year old taken from Theresienstadt to Auschwitz on September 29th. 1944 and Murdered there.)

6,000,000 Murdered Jews have lived under the genocidal term given to them for much of what remained of Jewish Survival, and their Survival from The Holocaust regards us and that it is incumbent upon us all to retain that principle guidance in order, Always to Remember, Never to Forget. The fundamental fact of all life is surely, We arrived, We laid siege to what life offered us, We stayed a while and then We departed. We might have understood that underlying principle far better if we showed an empathy for some of those 6,000,000 Murdered Jews whose journey proved more troubled than our own! Clearly! As we are obliged to pay our own respects to those we have Loved and Lost, the Worlds Humanity must look past all pretexts to share a concern for 6,000,000 Murdered Jews. Where these Jews, who are The Holocaust, are interred, matters so often in terms of all personal and any intimate connection. Otherwise, Poland as the largest grave site for Holocaust remembrance is not merely a pilgrimage, it is a privilege to make certain the World is awake to why We must visit. Forget the territory and ignore the demeaning images of collaboration that have been presented to us. The essential in this is the memory for 6,000,000 Jews who are much lost to all who survey the carnage struck by such an intolerable hatred.

Shema

You who live secure

In your warm houses,

Who return at evening to find

Hot food and friendly faces:

Consider whether this is a man,

Who labors in the mud

Who knows no peace

Who fights for a crust of bread

Who dies at a yes or a no.

Consider whether this is a woman,

Without hair or name

With no more strength to remember

Eyes empty and womb cold

As a frog in winter.

Consider that this has been:

I commend these words to you.

Engrave them on your hearts

When you are in your house, when you walk on your way,

When you go to bed, when you rise.

Repeat them to your children.

Or may your house crumble,

Disease render you powerless,

Your offspring avert their faces from you.” Primo Levi

(Primo Levi’s Shema is one of the finest poems to emerge from The Holocaust and from one of The Holocaust’s finest Writer’s. Born in Turin in 1919 he worked as an industrial Chemist prior to WWII and was detained and transported to Auschwitz. Having Survived this experience and being tormented by Survivoral guilt, he died in 1987. I do not see in what happened to him a suicide.)

Leaving aside all personal enmity, our journey from France through Poland to Russia and from Norway through Poland to Greece, 6,000,000 Murdered Jews do not expect other than our confirmation that we have made the effort to visit and Remember them. Jewish tradition holds with a simple stone as a marker that informs all others that we have been, we have acknowledged and we know the debt we owe 6,000,000 lost lives. There is ample room for 6,000,000 such stones, the achievement of which ensures, Reverence is not dealt with in any remote way. It demands effort and personal attachment, regardless of personal wishes or intentions. I visited x6 of these mass Graveyards, at Auschwitz and Birkenau, 1,100,000 or so markers required; Belzec, with 884,700 markers required; Chelmno, Majdanek, Sobibor and Treblinka and there is not enough to leave a marker sufficient in grief for 6,000,000 expectant souls. It is simple marker of respect to the memory of those who still passed this way, tortured, brutalised and murdered but in need of our Remembrance in order that they are nor Forgotten.

The Creed of a Holocaust Survivor

I do believe, with all my heart,

In the natural Goodness of Man. Despite the blood and destruction,

Brought by one man, trying to be God,

In the Goodness of Man, I do believe.

I do believe, with all my heart,

That God gave man the blessing and the curse.

Man can select the curse of envy, hatred and prejudices,

Or the blessing of love, harmony and beauty.

Despite the painful curses of the past,

In the blessing of the Creator, I do believe.

I do believe, with all my heart,

That God created a beautiful world,

The sun and the trees, the flowers and the bees.

And the best way to serve God, is

To enjoy the fruits of His labour of love.

Despite the painful memories from the past, In the joyful celebration of life,

I do believe. I do believe with all my heart,

That God has created man in image of His own.

And killing of man, is like killing of God.

Despite the massacres in Rwanda, the cleansing in Bosnia,

The folly of Muslim fanatics, and the cruelty of Pol Pot.

In the love and compassion of the Creator, I do believe.

I believe with all my heart,

That the Messiah and the Kingdom of Heaven will come;

When man will conquer his destructive urge,

And learn how to live in harmony with nature and himself.

When all the preachers of hate will be silenced,

And man will become his brother’s keeper.

When man will stop killing man, in the name of God,

And nation will not lift weapons against nation.

When it will be, I do not know, but

Despite all the signs to the contrary.

In the dawn of a Better World, I do believe. Alexander Kimel.

(Born in Podhaje, Galicia, lived in Ghetto of Rohatyn, where some 9,900 of the 10,000 Ghetto Jews were Murdered. Escaped May 1943 and is a Survivor.)

Their wait calls upon us to visit, restore a balance, make amends in some minute way and make an apology that rings out in Never Forgetting what we allowed for them to endure. The travelogue reads 6,000,000 times over, Remember me here as I wait for your coming. Remember. These Are Not Polish spaces as they belong to a displaced Humanity. They retain the last vestiges and integrity of a numbered People, their number being 6,000,000 and this is so vast we have Forgotten all of their Names. The shame too is that we can allow the World to Forget if we do not honour those spaces and allow for the hate filled continuance of:

“..they’re only Jews who still do not matter,”

to assign 6,000,000 murdered Jews to their past alone. For me, I know there are 6,000,000 People who do matter, and because they are Jews, we Remember them. And here all empathy turns toward a sympathy for a lost People, ritually devoured by a maddening hatred that is forever irrelevant. We can too easily accept that any form of hatred feasts off of our own humanity and devours it unless we counter its necrotizing influence. We no longer share the space once occupied by these Jewish People, so we honour their memory with a stone, left over to carry the weight of accusation forever forward.

your ashen hair Shulamite.” Paul Celan.

(Paul Celan (Paul Antschel) was born in Czernovitz, Romania and was in Forced Labour for 18 months before escaping to Bucharest and eventual Survival.)

Essentially, and more especially for Jews everywhere, these are your People and you have much more reason than I to recognise what the World owes them. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but in the case of 6,000,000 Murdered Jews, why do we not do everything to Remember them, even when it means standing at their last resting place. Their Remembrance counters all and everything we might bring to the fore amidst personal considerations. Our wishes must remain secondary to what is left of what was demanded of 6,000,000 Jews of Europe, and that has been their complete obliteration. Until you stand upon a place on Earth designating that this is their final resting place, who will know your concern and who will know you have been to Remember them. How else do we propose to Remember them in these coming days?

The Little Smuggler.

Over the wall, through holes, and past the guard,

Through the wires, ruins, and fences,

Plucky, hungry, and determined

I sneak through, dart like a cat.

At noon, at night, at dawn,

In snowstorm, cold or heat,

A hundred times I risk my life

And put my head on the line.

Under my arm a gunny sack,

Tatters on my back,

On nimble young feet,

With endless fear in my heart.

But one must endure it all,

One must bear it all,

So that tomorrow morning

The fine folk can eat their fill.

Over the wall, through holes and bricks,

At night, at dawn, at noon,

Plucky, hungry, artful,

I move silently like a shadow.

And only one request

Will stiffen on my lips:

Who, mother mine, who

Will bring your bread tomorrow? Henryka Lazawert.

(Henryka Lazawert was taken from Warsaw to Treblinka during July 1942 and Murdered there, her memory is preserved and though:

“..I move silently like a shadow.”

her destruction has not ensured her passage through our time is a forgotten detail. Not just merely in the words expressed, but her person is recalled.)

Treblinka had sought to accomplish a Hitlerian detail for more than 800,000 Jews or could it be more than 1,000,000 but obliteration comes to those forgotten and History records her name, her passing and her being. There in the gene sequence of the Survivor is the essential need for Justice which all but eliminates the terms of anger we would be raging with. All so many of these Human Beings, whose lives have been inundated with terror, horror and the grief of far too much loss, have a differing view to all of us where vengeance is replaced by what 6,000,000 Murdered Jews never received, Justice. The call to this day, for any form of Justice which meets the criterion which should be applied to the systematic nature of the Slaughter of 6,000,000 Murdered Jews of Europe, would make the most placid of us rage with anger, our blood boiling over for revenge.

But, and apart from the fact that the Survivor considers luck to have been on their side, it is no coincidence that Justice has swerved their infinite need. It is in knowing the lengths to which we all must go to deliver to each and everyone a small portion of who we aim to be. In the depths of a despair that is The Holocaust, I have found these the Children to be the hardest to deal with. All Children condemned to a life unworthy of life, because they were Jews and so cruelly taken from them. Humanity has taught me much, but if we do not see in the individual a semblance of us, we are doomed to negate all that we should stand for. I have no belief system. I have only a compassion that I deliver on behalf of 6,000,000 Murdered Jews who were denied everything. For us all, we should seek to demand every piece of the life, and that opportunity to live it in peace with each other.

In words recorded for 6,000,000 Jews who can no longer utter sentences of meaning for us, we recall their having been here, in angry terms! However, the seeming way the Survivor purges their own anger, while there could be a lust for vengeance is a remarkable feat of their human capacity to raise themselves up above the rage. The telling of tales from within a Killing Site, the escape from under the pressure of an entire Humanity weighing heavily upon them, calculates our own ability to seek an empathy with such losses as comprehension will not tally. So as I read on, journey forth and deliver even more words of Remembrance, ours is the gift of listening to what the Survivor must be suffering in informing us, and that is empathetic enough to deliver for posterity, The Holocaust History that emerged in our time.

Helene Berr

Reflections Posted on Sat, December 10, 2016 23:59:07

Helene Berr confirms The Holocaust in History.

Tuesday November 30th. 1943 “..Why did God endow humanity with ..power to do evil ..as well as ..capacity always to hope to be free.” Helene Berr.

Tuesday December 7th. 1943 “..people tell me ..your children are still young ..they’ll cope ..they’ll stand up to it. ..I told them ..They wont stand up to a bullet in ..neck. ..In Kiev they massacred 20,000 Jews. Feodosia ..Crimea ..12,000 in a single night.” Helene Berr.

Monday December 13th. 1943 “..Objectively ..it seems to me we are ..last shovelful ..we won’t slip through ..net. ..not many Jews left in Paris ..we don’t have much prospect of keeping out of ..way ..we won’t be tipped off. Subjectively ..time had finally come for each of us to look for our places of safety. ..I stay on in full awareness of what may happen ..it is a conscious choice. ..why did I make that choice. ..if I ..abandoned my official life ..it would feel like ..defecting. ..I’m well aware that nobody in ..family if left behind ..would have ..resolve in ..face of danger. ..separation will be atrociously painful for all of us ..above and beyond ..fact of being deported. ..If anyone reads these words after it has happened ..will be struck ..and ..ask ..How could you have done nothing. ..my worries are not about me. ..Should we abandon everything ..when it’s quite possible ..nothing will happen at all.” Helene Berr.

Friday December 17th. 1943 Convoy 63 is destined for Auschwitz from the Drancy Concentration Camp. Aboard are the Baur Family, along with 844 other Jewish Men, Women and Their Children. The Baur Family is later referred to in Helene Berr’s Journal.

Monday December 20th. 1943 850 Jewish Men, Women and Their Children arrive at Auschwitz from the Drancy Concentration Camp. Amongst these arrivals are the Baur Family which Helene Berr writes of in Her Journal. Immediate selection sees 505 of these deportees Gassed. None of the Baur Family ever returned.

Wednesday December 22nd. 1943 “..Maman told me ..Andre Baur ..his Wife ..deported ..with their four small Children. It haunts me. ..so certain they would not be taken ..at Christmas ..making trees for what is a Children’s holiday ..made me grieve so much.” Helene Berr.

History here adds to what Helene informs us of. WE know from Serge Klarsfeld that Andre, his Wife Odette and their x4 Children, Pierre who was 10 years old, Myriam who was 9 years old, Antoine who was 6 years old and Francine their 3 year old Youngest Child. They were deported toward Auschwitz on December 17th. 1943 on Convoy 63. None Survived.

Friday December 31st. 1943 “..When I write ..word Jew ..I am not saying exactly what I mean ..for me that distinction does not exist ..I do not feel different from other people ..I will never think of myself as a member of a separate human group. ..I suffer from ..sight of evil falling upon humanity.” Helene Berr.

Helene Berr was arrested March 8th. 1944 and prior to being deported to Auschwitz, spent time in the Drancy Concentration Camp until, on March 27th. 1944 with 1,000 other Jewish Men, Women and Their Children, was transported to Auschwitz. 472 others from Convoy 70 were immediately Gassed upon arrival. Helene was a Diarist and her work survives while she did not. It is a further coincidence that her Death was not in Auschwitz but in Belsen, amongst the many who succumbed there. She shares the same burial ground as Anne Frank

Relating My Work

Reflections Posted on Sat, March 12, 2016 01:16:32

I am grateful for the opportunity to relate to you about my Books and I hope you will find them informative and hopefully, enlightening. I have many reasons for wanting to write these particular Books. My interest in history, and Holocaust history in particular, which asks only that the truth be employed to reconstruct the facts that are pertinent to that study. Documented proof, testimony and memory must all converge to present a living truth that does honour to those events we attempt to describe. When asked:-

What do I know about The Holocaust?

I have to reply with honesty and with all due deference to the memory of the 6,000,000 Jews murdered in The Holocaust, and for whom I am attempting to eulogize in my work, that I know only of The Holocaust through my study. My Books are a large part of that study and a greater part of the essential to add toward the Jewish memory that has been lost. I thought of the 4 year old Tokele and the 6,000,000 Jews of The Holocaust every time I began a page of my study. I could never imagine the anguish of Anne Frank, or the distraught nature of a Mother faced with the brutal murder of her Child. How then could I ever look at the picture of Tokele and not feel for the grief of the Jewish Nation? Such is that grief, which could so engulf me, I had to seek a release, and this work has been my opportunity to lament an awful catastrophe.

The listener, I do feel, will always be better served by the words of those who have survived The Holocaust. I feel morally obligated though, by certain historical omissions, which have driven me to write my Books and to attempt to redress these concerns:-

1) There was a less than generous Christian response to what was happening to the Jewish People,

2) There was a clear Christian complicity in the murders of the Jewish People,

3) There was an Irish neutrality which stands in stark relief against the destructive indictment of Holocaust History,

4) There is still a deceit that welds Christians to the indifference shown toward the Jews and…

5) There is a refusal, by many, to come to terms with their crimes, or with their own omissions and with those clear betrayals.

There is the gradual emergence of a will to suggest a way forward, to fight bigotry and racism and to make positive gains for humanity. In The Holocaust, research into a Christian failure to respond adequately, is an indictment I seek to respond to. We should not take continually from History, without giving something back. We have a responsibility toward tomorrow for what we write today. Before non seeing eyes The Holocaust was played out and I hope my Books have a relevance today within a world still resonating to intolerant aggressions and indifferences. As I damn the perpetrators, as I do the others who chose to look the other way, are not those who stood by and witnessed the progression of disorder, toward methodical mass murder, as reprehensible? The truth for tomorrow should not be distorted by what we know to be true today and that truth must account for those who stood up and were counted.

Any reluctance to learn from these calamitous crimes will allow the future for our Children to bleed openly from the wounds of hatred. Hatred has a way of ensuring that no other perspective is given to an outlook which can only fashion turmoil, can only condone disarray and can only breed future discord. I was struck, as a matter of probity; to ensure that the words of those who saw, witnessed, participated or perpetrated these unfolding crimes, were not misrepresented. My Books are a persistent indictment of what was done, of what was allowed to be done and what has not been fully attested to. The debt which civilization owes to the Jewish People will not allow us to move forward in a World which still claims lives through indifference. I choose my words cautiously, and I choose the words of the Survivor and the destroyed, even more carefully. From within The Holocaust, from within the confines of Warsaw itself, Chaim Aron Kaplan reflects upon the coming destruction and the abandonment of His People. It is Tuesday 15th. October 1940:-

“..I gazed at ..Dantean scenes in ..streets of Warsaw ..and could not stop thinking ..Are we guiltier than any nation? Have we sinned more than any people? Will we really die? Are we doomed to total destruction? Nobody in the world is concerned for us ..nobody shares our plight.” Chaim Aron Kaplan

Sadly, all of that was true, all that Kaplan foretold, came to pass. From such insight I chose to allow the words in my Books to conduct the reader through The Holocaust without becoming caught up in interpretation. My Books are, in very many ways, an apology for what was allowed to happen. It is also a celebration of the 4 year old girl, Tokele, who came this way, and for those other 6,000,000 Jews now lost to us, and I hope it is a fitting tribute. We so often see the figures, that are supposedly representative of the slaughter and which fully engulfed the Jewish People, seek to disguise and hide the despicable crimes they actually depict. Perhaps we have great difficulty in comprehending the scale of the atrocity? As it was meted out to the Jews of Belzec, Chelmno, Majdanek, Sobibor or Treblinka or to the Jews of Auschwitz/Birkenau or to those Jews murdered by der Einsatzgruppe, can we not sense the pain?

I would like to suggest to you, and if we take the calamitous loss to humanity at the 2 day assault upon the Jews at Babi Yar, and attempt to appreciate that 33,771 Jewish lives were cast aside, how do we then contemplate the murders at Belzec were 600,000 Jews perished, at Treblinka, where some 1,200,000 Jewish lives were destroyed? The Einsatzgruppen alone, murdered 1,500,000 to 2,000,000 Jews, how do we comprehend that figure? At Auschwitz/Birkenau, The Holocaust account could include some 2,500,000 more Jewish lives. What in our intellect will allow us to conceive of such a catastrophe? When Simon Wiesenthal points to a Map of Europe and asks us to appreciate the calamity he too faced, he begs us to look, but not as Eichmann would do, with the figures in statistical relief, but to look at the People that Wiesenthal once knew, and as the world must now mourn. The human dimension to the crimes I have written about, only have words and intentions to fill the void created by the murders of 6,000,000 Jews.

Therefore, the words I continually use in my Books confront the reader, and are the proving ground for the facts of The Holocaust. Words do indeed have a harmonizing effect for what has happened and for what needs to be said, but they can also be utilized to distort. The reader, unaffected by any previous impression or even bias, is not given over to contentious argument, at least in the context of the facts which I relay. My Books are certainly written with a rage against indifference, and the reader will hopefully understand that The Holocaust is an outrage perpetrated against the Jewish People, and against humanity as the bystander to these crimes. Hopefully, some understanding might point us toward an urging, which will never allow such atrocities to happen again! Sadly, that slender hope has been quashed, in the Balkans and in Central Africa! I hope I have managed to untangle some of the distortions that are presented today, and even among the ‘intentionalist’ and ‘functionalist’ studies, which I believe are irrelevant in the midst of a scene, shot where 6,000,000 Jews are murdered, any study of The Holocaust is not best served. Pointedly, and by the will of one man, and with the concentrated hatred of so many more, we have to accept that this outrage was committed against the Jewish People, and against what humanizes us. I am cognizant of the feelings of Elie Wiesel and he has stated in his book, A Jew Today:-

“..We became witnesses to a huge simplification. On the one side there were the executioners and on the other the victims. What about the onlookers, those who remained neutral, those who served the executioner simply by not interfering? To be a Jew then meant to fight both the complacency of the neutral and the hate of the killers.” Elie Wiesel.

Wiesel knows that we should not diminish the importance of the Jewish Survivor’s voice, even in the hollow created by the Catastrophe of The Holocaust, and we must respect that position. Clearly, my personal attempt to comprehend how a small part of humanity could demonize our civilizing name, is part of the endeavour to redress that imbalance. I wish to add to that urgent need to learn from past mistakes. I am indebted to all too many who have gifted us their truth, their testimony and a measure of their grief we could never contemplate. I owe especially to Professor Yehuda Bauer, of YadVashem, who reminds us in ‘Jews for Sale’:-

“..That our heroes were ordinary humans, perhaps more gifted with insight and courage than the rest of us; they did the correct thing at the right time.” Yehuda Bauer.

and then Deborah Lipstadt, whose commentary in ‘Denying the Holocaust’, is a chilling indictment of our present ambivalence to these past crimes, she writes:-

“..All those who value truth, particularly truths that are subject to attack by the plague of hatred, must remain ever vigilant.” Deborah Lipstadt.

I also owe much to, Primo Levi who has an immeasurable strength and a decency which suggests a way forward that is without hatred and revenge. In Moments of Reprieve, Levi is also aware that the account of The Holocaust is not as scientific as it might be and that :-

“..It is possible that the distance in time has accentuated the tendency to round out the facts or heighten the colors: this tendency, or temptation, is an integral part of writing.” Primo Levi.

Remembering that past, and toward influencing the future is deeply reflective in all of Levi’s works and I hope I take from that lead. I hope also, that I have afforded the memory of so many People, a positive condemnation of our own guilt and a sense of the grief and remorse for what was done against the Jewish People it was done to. Ostensibly, this was all done by Christians; either by way of a neutrality which we should not have afforded the Nazis, and mainly, and with a clear indictment of the indifference shown by so many toward their fellow Human Beings, by so-called civilized people we should have expected more from. My Books are a detailed study of the progression of The Holocaust, from the burning of selected Books to the selected destruction of the 6,000,000 innocent Jewish People. I wanted an Irish expression which sought to damn those who perpetrated these crimes. I was sent a picture one day, of a young girl, TOKELE, whose life was taken from us, even after The Holocaust had supposedly ended. I was vexed into a reply which could not make sense of a world; decayed by an expression of antisemitic hatred. I wanted to condemn those ‘christians’, who sought to take the life of a 4 year old Child for the fact of her Jewishness. I wanted my Books to then confront the Irish response to the tragedy of the very nature of this very Jewish Holocaust.

From the terms of the Wannsee Conference, 4,000 Irish Citizens were targeted for extinction and I felt that the Irish Government should at least admit to that fact and declare its past neutrality a betrayal of Christian values. In England we have to remember that 330,000 of her Citizens would have been murdered because they were Jewish? I feel that all neutral Countries, who I insist have the right to their own neutrality, must stand up against what is wrong, vile or harmful to this world we all share. I am concerned at what is owed to Survivors who have already suffered TOO much. I look at what was achieved by Sweden and the Danish People and I wonder why more wasn’t done by us, the democratic nations? Today we see too much evidence of what has leeched from these times to add expression to a continuation of genocides. The Kurds and the Bosnian Muslims are groups of People who have paid, with their lives, for unaltered attitudes and an abstract human indifference.

It is never easy to write, using your own words, to apply them to that grief which is the experience of others. My concern, for a tragedy that happened to a Jewish People I did not know, a Jewish People I had no experience of or whom I was not acquainted with, has been a redeeming factor in my struggle to meet the words with the concerns I have. A scythe was taken to a People who were fully decapitated from the body of humanity and it remains to the writer to suture that amputation with words of condolence. A statement of grief that is valued by its sense of remorse, and which is a true comment upon a deep sadness, and is clearly attempting of empathy and compassion, will not suffice however, for even one single voice that is missing from within those dark days of The Holocaust, but it is necessary.

As with many ideas, it is the consent of People which brings about change, and People have to be willing to accept that the Jews of The Holocaust were murdered by an inertia which was then interpreted, in some hideous way, as compliance. There is a redemption in the Publication of so many Books on The Holocaust, as long as they hold true to the memory of a People; so devoid of our concern when they needed it most. The written word, which is gradually becoming omitted from this world, for the space of newer technologies, still has a resonance which can not be allowed to fade. The study of The Holocaust must be taken forward and if we cannot find the remnants of the Jewish People who were murdered, we can at least articulate our concern at that loss! Now, seemingly, we argue over what belongs to those who were destroyed? It worries me deeply that we are still debating over what is owed to the Jews of The Holocaust, 70 years on.

When we know what we owe, when we know we are in their debt and when we know that we should be aware that we continually fail to repay for what was taken from them, we will not learn, we will not grow! While we hold honesty and decency with high regard, we can be untouched by the hatred in the world. When we profess those qualities audibly, hatred will become limiting in its outpourings! Feeling is entwined in comprehension, so for us to comprehend the tragedy of The Holocaust, we must feel for the terrible atrocity done to the Jewish People. Finally, at the cost of 6,000,000 Jewish souls, how do we impose the penalties that are owed to their passing? I can never be satisfied that we will ever repay that debt to so many murdered People, nor can we easily regain our previously held humanity. If we can at least learn from the past we might just earn for the Future! Finally, and I make no excuses for again using the words of Primo Levi, one of my favourite writers on The Holocaust, when he reminds us:-

“..If the world would become convinced that Auschwitz never existed, it would be easier to build a second Auschwitz, and there is no assurance it would devour only Jews.”

For Tokele and the 6,000,000!

There is a postscript to this journey I have commenced. I received an e-mail from Israel. A cousin of my correspondent had known the girl Tokele! It was fortunate for his cousin, she was visiting elsewhere at the time, or she too would have been murdered on that night. I had managed to reach back into History and resurrect from a name a tangible link with The Holocaust! It is ironic that my search; that part of my dedication to Tokele should lead full circle to a person who had known her and could add a new dimension to this Child. I want Tokele to become a beacon, as Anne Frank has become, toward gaining newer tolerances and understanding. As with all that is reflected from within The Holocaust. There is a cautious note however, and it is for that continuing requirement to listen, and to ask about The Holocaust and as to why it was allowed to occur?

Mein Kampf

Books unworthy of a Print Run!

“..There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written ..or badly written.” Oscar Wilde.

I contend that with this particular tome, and though Wilde is intrinsically right, the content of this particular book, which proved with such an immoral and debased usage of words of hidden intentions, Hitler’s Mein Kampf is as improper as it seems immoral. Hitler proved such a cantankerous individual, an intolerable soul and a vile personality that his control of words have proved so wrong, iniquitous and certainly sinful in any Religious context. Out of the words which conceptualised a chosen hatred for the Jewish People, words were made illegitimate. That assessment alone, of a books immoral content, fully made real the tenets of a Genocide we know is The Holocaust. With the Nazification of the literary word which could mean the destruction of Books that were alien to Hitler and his remorseless subversive agenda, words in Nazi Germany became subversive. Then, with the lighting of bonfires to consume the works of those whom Hitler disliked, had difficulty comprehending or plain and simply regarded as an opposing view to his own, all of these where recklessly consigned to the flames.

“..knowledge is stored in his brain as a literal transcript of ..books he has read and ..order of succession in which he has read them.” Hitler in Mein Kampf.

On May 10th. 1933 the Public burning of books in Berlin’s Unter den Linden, and other university towns, took place. Those Books, written either by Jews, by political opponents, by so called dissidents and by many others not wholly approved of by Hitler or his formulaic and unapproving state, were consumed in flames and destroyed. In Berlin alone, the political police had stored more than 500 tons of books and periodicals, and all of these works would provide a bonfire of not just vanity but arrogance beyond measure. Words which had been carefully and thoughtfully placed upon paper were voluminously assigned and would set the signal for the coming conflagration of human culture. What this Hitler work had made, as an accusation of where culture was supposedly wrong, was to now assume the mantle of pure work. Any, which were proven contradictory to Nazism or Hitler’s sensitivity were destroyed. Those words which proved anathema to Hitler, which even suggested or constituted any form of idealism, while they tabled any form of morality, received a blanket ban.

“..This kind of propaganda influenced men in such a way as to give them a taste for reading ..Social Democratic Press and prepare their minds for its teaching. That Press ..in its turn ..was a vehicle of ..spoken word rather than of ..written word. Whereas in ..bourgeois camp professors and learned writers ..theorists ..authors of all kinds ..made attempts at talking ..in ..Marxist camp real speakers often made attempts at writing. And it was precisely ..Jew who was most prominent here. In general and because of his shrewd dialectical skill and his knack of twisting ..truth to suit his own purposes ..he was an effective writer but in reality his métier was that of a revolutionary orator rather than a writer. For this reason ..journalistic bourgeois world ..setting aside ..fact that here also ..Jew held ..whip hand and that therefore this press did not really interest itself in ..instruction of ..broad masses ..was not able to exercise even ..least influence over ..opinions held by ..great masses of our people.” Hitler in Mein Kampf.

Any work which was related to any form of tolerance, or would even present an advocacy for the democratic way of life, these works were inconceivably accused of being forged and without merit. That Hitler alone could render masterpieces of the literary world as without credit, was undermining the very notion of all literary value. What the Cultural World had previously assessed as works of great importance, Hitler condemned to the flames. As with his refusal to see in Art the Culture of impression, so too in the words which orchestrated so much meaning, did Hitler see an altered image which went against the pedantic relevance Hitler placed upon only what he considered worthy. For those works chosen for Hitler’s form of elitism, and these became an adulterated assertion of bias, prejudice and intolerable contempt for literary prowess, words suddenly were prevented from statement and thus had a limiting significance once they had become suppressed.

“..if 12,000 or 15,000 Jews .. been forced to submit to poison gas ..then millions of sacrifices made at ..front would not have been in vain.” Hitler in Mein Kampf.

Many authors, like Henri Barbusse, August Bebel, Franz Boas, Bertold Brecht, Max Brod, John Dos Passos, Theodore Dreiser, Albert Einstein, Lion Feuchtwanger, Friedrich Forster, Sigmund Freud, John Galsworthy, Andre Gide, Ernst Glaeser, Maxim Gorki, Werner Hegemann, Heinrich Heine, Ernest Hemingway, Erich Kastner, Helen Keller, Alfred Kerr, Jack London, Emil Ludwig, Heinrich Mann, Thomas Mann, Karl Marx, Hugo Preuss, Marcel Proust, Erich Maria Remarque, Walther Rathenau, Margaret Sanger, Arthur Schnitzler, Upton Sinclair, Kurt Tucholsky, Jakob Wassermann, H.G. Wells, Franz Werfel,Theodor Wolff, Emile Zola, Arnold Zweig, and Stefan Zweig were roundly condemned and depicted, deceitfully, as opposing freedom of expression. It is most certainly known that bonfires raged while words that might have informed were consigned to oblivion. All of this certainly paved the way for The Holocaust, as Heine had already proposed. It is a bold assumption to make perhaps, but it was a very short step from what Heine had clearly assessed would then lead to the Burning of people:

“..Where they burn books ..they will also ultimately burn people.” Heinrich Heine.

Up and down the German Nazi State, flames were sought to consume the ability of its own people to discern the stature of Literature, Art and even Culture. The German people were to be shrouded, and away from works of Art that did not fit the mould of Hitlerite disregard, Hitler could embellish his own perversions upon German society. And with that sentence placed upon the ‘kultur’ of a society already ripened for all manner of intolerance’s, then those exact same German people would become swayed as sections of society, commencing with the Jews were sectioned, subjugated and then destroyed. For Mein Kampf, a tome of sorts for an illiterate rabble governed by so many intolerance’s and hatreds, Hitler’s words fell upon accepting ears. The vehement denial of a living place for all People in this World was replaced by a living space for only a selected few. Not an exactly moral undertaking, and the words were clearly inaugurated in advance of that ability to achieve mass annihilation. This book contains an odiously all embracing selection of words with a clear and distinctive invective.

“..Outside my architectural studies and rare visits to ..opera ..I had no other pleasure in life except my books. I read a great deal ..and ..pondered ..what I read.” Hitler in Mein Kampf.

That these words are aimed ostensibly toward the Jews of Germany and World Jewry in particular is most clear. Hitler’s clearer struggle for meaning though is a puerile and wordy read. The work is largely ineffective in its reach to meaningful exposition as it is an indulgent work and without any credit to originality! It is witless and crammed with the hackneyed idea that superior beings can have mastery over what will be decided are lesser beings. It detains a race theory which equates humanity to mere spawn, unable to regulate its own hopes, aspirations, desires or independent thought. The gutless wonder that was Adolf Hitler, who not only gouged out a reputation as a veritable monster, but utilised it to a genocidal propensity, used a dictatorial approach toward the German people which gave him his power base and destroyed their independence. This deplorable position, by which he could resort to the most bestial crimes ever perpetrated against humankind, fully involved those who adhered closely to the failed policy of a Master Race! To this day the Culture of Civilisation is permanently under threat by those who see in opposing views a conviction which requires restraining.

“..What soon gave me cause for very serious consideration were ..activities of ..Jews in certain branches of life ..into ..mystery of which I penetrated little by little. Was there any shady undertaking ..any form of foulness ..especially in cultural life ..in which at least one Jew did not participate. On putting ..probing knife carefully to that kind of abscess one immediately discovered ..like a maggot in a putrescent body ..a little Jew who was often blinded by ..sudden light.” Hitler in Mein Kampf.

The true learning which the written word had so gifted all of humanity has been soured by those, like Hitler, who have struck out the words most emancipating aspect. Hitler has clearly delivered a verse to ignorance that is literally intolerant. What should have amounted to a serious consideration for what is Tolerance, and not just in protecting the Jews from Hitler and his regime, was forgotten. In allowing for the rest of Humanity to not only conform to the indifference shown toward the intolerance’s Hitler displayed against Jews and other’s, duplicity has word’s raised in accusation. It is essential that History recognises what Hitler was, what Fascism is and what the Nazi movement had become in a significant form. Whatever else the Jews were Slaughtered for, it was nothing more than a means to mass Murder and then to steal from them more than we had already stolen. We had already stolen their God! Their Religion! and A Christ! The Holocaust was to be the covert operation that was to be screened away from the World by the advent of the Second World War and was to steal all sense of what Humanity had previously considered morally correct.

“..I believe today that my conduct is in accordance with ..will of ..Almighty Creator. In standing guard against ..Jew I am defending ..handiwork of ..Lord.” Hitler in Mein Kampf.

What Hitler conducted with a fixated will, which he even claimed had been defined by God for him to exploit, was abrogated into an evil beyond measure? What Hitler clearly ignored in God’s Creation was the Fact that we are all made equal. We are all made in God’s image and as the Jew’s are God’s Chosen People, Hitler was set to dismantle all that God’s covenant would ensure? What God had demanded of His Chosen People, Hitler would sacrifice on an alter of the greatest conflagration ever to consume, that raft which had kept humanity afloat. The unfortunate instance of this Jewish Catastrophe is that it was not concealed, it was not disguised enough, nor was it obliterated from time. Tragically for us though, more of what was known was deciphered and kept secret from us all. When an approach by any humanitarian concern would have acted accordingly and done more to cease the rage levelled against the Jews, this was ignored and kept in check.

“..yoke of slavery is and always will remain ..most unpleasant experience that mankind can endure. Do ..Schwabing decadents look upon Germanys lot today as aesthetic. Of course ..one doesn’t discuss such a question with ..Jews ..because they are ..modern inventors of this cultural perfume. Their very existence is an incarnate denial of ..beauty of Gods image in His creation.” Hitler in Mein Kampf.

In the final analysis, there might not have been the Murders of 6,000,000 Jews for humanity to come to terms with, let alone comprehend how much these Jews of Europe had toendure, but there would have been a sight of a tolerance which far outweighed the indifference most World powers displayed. During the period of these Jewish People’s worst moment in all of our History, Humanity was found wanting. As it had absented itself from all moral conscience, Jewish Men, Women and Their Children were literally destroyed. What Hitler had formerly claimed had been the yoke of slavery, this now became the tool by which he would enslave an entire Continent. Then, as he gorged himself of this deadly hatred, upon those people he considered unworthy of any life whatsoever, Worldwide some 50 to 70 Million people would succumb to the ravages of War. What must be clearly recognised within the tenets that led directly to The Holocaust, is the invective and suggestion which Hitler placed before the German people.

“..From time immemorial ..Jews have known better than any others how falsehood and calumny can be exploited. Is not their very existence founded on one great lie ..that they are a religious community ..whereas in reality they are a race. ..what a race! One of ..greatest thinkers that mankind has produced has branded ..Jews for all time with a statement which is profoundly and exactly true. He ..Schopenhauer called ..Jew ..Great Master of Lies. Those who do not realise ..truth of that statement ..or do not wish to believe it ..will never be able to lend a hand in helping Truth to prevail.” Hitler in Mein Kampf.

It was an instance of suggestion in a book of words which led toward the accumulation of atrocious events. In The Holocaust, which ravaged and degraded human beings before they were Slaughtered, Hitler’s ignominy has been assured. The orchestration of all that happened within Germany was manifestly Hitler’s directorial effort. Led by his own very warped confusion with ideals, a World would succumb to a brutal assault upon its founding principles. And Hitler clearly illiterates these intentions in a book so widely read throughout the World, no one seemed fit to appreciate what Hitler intended. For such an immense anti Jewish crusade to be then launched, with the words that had been in clear view for years, it is amazing that a World can claim any ignorance of what then transpired. With a more than certain larceny that would be fully concealed, Hitler bore his words into action and began the device of that ultimate accomplishment. However, wealth became a component of a corrupt and failed ideology as Hitler sought to profit from all that the Jews had accumulated. All of this was conducted fully by Hitler’s will, and established so as to deprive the Jewish People firstly of asset, wealth, community and then life.

“..Without books ..development of civilisation would have been impossible. They are ..engines of change ..windows on ..world ..lighthouses as ..poet said erected in ..sea of time. They are companions ..teachers ..magicians ..bankers of ..treasures of ..mind ..Books are humanity in print.” Arthur Schopenhauer.

With a destructive undertaking of catastrophic proportions against the 11,293,300 Jews of Europe, as regarded by The Wannsee Conference, what was orchestrated by Hitler was a destructive force which obliterated 6,000,000 of those Jews now taken from us! The wealth of ‘nations’ to this day has borne all of this hatred and destruction out! What we have gained though, from the intellect of one for whom Hitler sought to gain an insight into, Arthur Schopenhauer, we learn of the fact that civilises us, Books, Words, Teachers of the treasury of humanity in printed detail, which Hitler clearly neglected. Thus te debate as to the rights and wrongs over whether people should read this dictated drivel by an antisemitic despot, languishing in gaol, is academic. Surely we are all garnered by a concern that some might even consider that the excessive language is worthy of ewprint. We can but accept that it is in print yet can we accpet the context from which Hitler has derived such personal infamy!

“..In times of distress a wave of public anger has usually arisen against ..Jew ..masses have taken ..law into their own hands ..have seized Jewish property ..ruined ..Jew in their urge to protect themselves against what they consider to be a scourge of God. Having come to know ..Jew intimately through ..course of centuries ..in times of distress they looked upon his presence among them as a public danger comparable only to ..plague.” Hitler in Mein Kampf.

It is not relevant to the terms of The Holocaust whether or not Mein Kampf is reissued. It is simply that as a work it is a marker by which the World will judge the rancid nature, the dogged and rigid terms of a book such as Mein Kampf gains any sort of acceptance. It is quite shocking that there are still those who will seek to exculpate Hitler from the midst of The Holocaust with the falsehood that is ridden in this book. The book itself is a shameful examination of the very content as its vitriole marks with a hate filled useag of words an all too liberally condemnation of much of mankind. While aimed directly at the Jewish People it can be aimed equally at all those whose will cannot be bent by Hitler’s. For those persuaded to achieve any form of infamy, given the free hand to extort and exhort all manner of excess against an other People, Mrin Kampf has the words to access a very deeply disturbing level of hate filled intolerance. It is all too easy to see that when a scapegoat is offered up upon the altar of ignorance and prejudice, the ramifications for all of mankind is infamy, destruction and desolation.

“..He will stop at nothing. His utterly low down conduct is so appalling that one really cannot be surprised if in ..imagination of our people ..Jew is pictured as ..incarnation of Satan and ..symbol of evil. ..ignorance of ..broad masses as regards ..inner character of ..Jew ..and ..lack of instinct and insight that our upper classes display ..are some of ..reasons which explain how it is that so many people fall an easy prey to ..systematic campaign of falsehood which ..Jew carries on. While ..upper classes ..with their innate cowardliness ..turn away from anyone whom ..Jew thus attacks with lies and calumny ..common people are credulous of everything ..whether because of their ignorance or their simple mindedness. Government authorities wrap themselves up in a robe of silence ..but more frequently they persecute ..victims of Jewish attacks in order to stop ..campaign in ..Jewish Press.” Hitler in Mein Kampf.

It is abundantly clear too that all those ignorant of Tolerance were bent to the will of an intolerance that made Hitler’s lackey’s seem less simply minded in their own obeyance. As to where exactly was the World’s condemnation, it was harvested in the pages of reports on the Mass Extermination of The Jews of Europe. Israel is becoming a more frightening prospect for Jews, where a new intolerance seeks the Jewish People out in their own Homeland! As an author on The Holocaust, I will give it serious consideration before I contemplate any visit to see YadVashem, a must for those who wish to see their Testimony of Remembrance recognised in a Museum which stands so tall in 6,000,000 ways. It is sad that there is even an ongoing debate as to whether to allow certain refugees into their Country! Imagine Jews declining refugees a status they deserve? For fear of Islamist terrorism being concealed within what would be an altruistic Jewish benevolence, Israel is cautious. Of course Jews and Israel will be then criticised for denying entry to those in obvious need? It is a reversal of a Jewish status during The Holocaust when Hitler had set himself above and beyond the God of Creation

“..Look at ..ravages from which our people are suffering daily as a result of being contaminated with Jewish blood. Bear in mind ..fact that this poisonous contamination can be eliminated from ..national body only after centuries ..or perhaps never. Think further of how ..process of racial decomposition is debasing ..in some cases ..destroying ..fundamental Aryan qualities of our German people ..so that our cultural creativeness as a nation is gradually becoming impotent and we are running ..danger ..at least in our great cities ..of falling to ..level where Southern Italy is today. This pestilential adulteration of ..blood ..of which 100’s of 1,000’s of our people take no account ..is being systematically practised by ..Jew today. Systematically these negroid parasites in our national body corrupt our innocent fair haired girls and thus destroy something which can no longer be replaced in this world. ..2 Christian denominations look on with indifference at ..profanation and destruction of a noble and unique creature who was given to ..world as a gift of Gods grace. For ..future of ..world ..however ..it does not matter which of ..2 triumphs over ..other ..Catholic or ..Protestant. But it does matter whether Aryan humanity survives or perishes. And yet ..2 Christian denominations are not contending against ..destroyer of Aryan humanity but are trying to destroy one another. Everybody who has ..right kind of feeling for his country is solemnly bound ..each within his own denomination ..to see to it that he is not constantly talking about ..Will of God merely from ..lips but that in actual fact he fulfils ..Will of God and does not allow Gods handiwork to be debased. For it was by ..Will of God that men were made of a certain bodily shape ..were given their natures and their faculties. Whoever destroys His work wages war against Gods Creation and Gods Will.” Hitler in Mein Kampf.

Evidence for the 6,000,000 Murdered Jews of The Holocaust!

Reflections Posted on Sun, August 30, 2015 14:07:37

“..wrong to imagine ..top men of ..regime would have boasted of of their crimes…nothing would ever be said about any sinister activities we might be up to.” Reichsminister Albert Speer.

There is so much more to Evidence than Testimony can provide. Our reliance upon Witness statements! The confirmation of Pepetrators!

The eventual verification which those who suffered who are the Victims and the Survivors, all leads us to an overall Truth which History has endorsed. This is all in order so that we too will gain the knowledge of a comprehension which we seek.

What is also True in all of this, is that the Perpetrators have delivered in their Testimony what has been effectively achieved by their effort in those terms we know are The Holocaust. Theirs is an account of their very own ‘aktionen’. All that they are willing to take away from that simple admission is their own lack of personal responsibility. Their Truth then remains that they were involved in the mass Murder of 6,000,000 Jews, but for the large part, were under orders to do so and avoid their own personal guilt.

“..By resettling ..Jews out of ..European economic area to a yet to be determined territory. In ..framework of this ..5,800,000 Jews will be affected.” SS Obersturmbannfuhrer Adolf Eichmann.

So the methods of those who do not accept the Truth of The Holocaust are divisive and they are without credibility. It is true that they have a resonance, but it is to those same minded irrelevants who seek to somehow vindicate Hitler’s position in every context of the commissioning and perpetration of The Holocaust.

Still, those who dismiss the truth remain an irrelevance in History as the veracity of these facts will not be distorted by them. The contorted, strangled and biased manner of their aim, with their three main strands of historical deformity, is easily set aside. They refute the presence of Gas Chambers, though this is acknowledged by all, Victims, Participants, Perpetrators and Witnesses. From the very inception of the ‘Gassing Facility’ in the T4 Euthanasia programme, we know of the existence of the Gas Chambers. We know too that variants on how Jews and others were gassed have been likewise acknowledged.

“..I have killed with ruthless disregard for humanity. I ordered young German soldiers to kill with ruthless disregard for humanity. I personally authorized favorable reports on ..use of Zyklon ‘B’ as a gassing chemical and personally pulled ..trigger of a machine gun to shoot civilians on ..snowy steppes of ..Ukraine. I hanged Polish ..French and Dutch civilians during summary and reprisal executions. I am a criminal.” SS Sturmbannfuhrer Rolf Otto Schiller.

Zyklon ‘B’, as divisibly distinguishable from Carbon Monoxide Gas, proves that many methods were adopted, adapted and even blended to add to the convergence and totality of that figure which is the 6,000,000 Jewish Murdered. Here too they dispute the burgeoning record of those missing 6,000,000 Jews of Europe having been Murdered in The Holocaust. Though History and The Holocaust historian has sought to review earlier findings, the accuracy of Auschwitz, the reliability of the catastrophe for the Jews in Majdanek, many have been unable to dismiss the possibility that even far more than 6,000,000 Men, Women and Their Children of the Jewish Faith have been Murdered within Hitler’s remit to do so.

That those who dismiss the Truth and seek the physical proof of that Evidence, is disingenuous. It is as yet impossible to resurrect even ONE of those Jews from the 6,000,000 who were either Gassed, by use of Zyklon ‘B’ or Carbon Monoxide or for those 1,250,000 Jews Murdered by der Einsatzgruppe and myriad methods employed by Hitler and his minions.

“..essential ..we do not proclaim our views ..before ..world. ..no need for that ..main thing ..we ourselves know what we want. .. Nobody must be able to recognize that it initiates a final settlement. This need not prevent our taking all necessary measures ..shooting ..resettling ..we shall take them.” Adolf Hitler.

This attempted absolving of Hitler is their reckless but not final contention, which is a method they use to exonerate Hitler from the midst of his very commissioning terms of The Final Solution. This absurdity is disdainful to those who have been denied a life because of Hitler’s rampage through our History. We have more than an adequate supply of those willing to attest to what Hitler demanded should happen to The Jews of Europe and so many others. We have Hitler’s chief Lieutenant’s confirming for History the detail of that Hitler involvement. Yet the dismissers of Truth, whose insistence that a signed piece of paper by Hitler, demanding of a Final Solution, cannot simply dismiss the evidence that History provides. However, as we move through the coming rafts of time, that insinuation will not discredit the clearest intention that without Hitler, The Holocaust would not have happened.

Evidence of The Catastrophe!

Reflections Posted on Fri, August 28, 2015 19:31:14

“..valuables found were placed in a special suitcase. It was not ..SS men who searched through ..corpses. They just attentively watched ..Ukrainians doing it. After ..bodies had been searched ..they were placed in trenches in layers. They were placed very tightly in layers facing down in such a way that someone’s head touched someone else’s feet. They had not been stripped of their underwear. ..trench was 6 metres deep ..6 ..7 metres wide. ..at ..top.” Michal Podchelbnik.

Those Jews of Europe, prior to Hitler’s rise to power in 1933, and who documented their Evidence for us, did so unaware that Hitler had defined their presence as intrusive, unwarranted and ultimately unessential. That overall assessment, and not just here at Chelmno, where the following Testimony of the Truth, for what emerged finally as a Death Camp’s place within The Holocaust, forms an Evidence history will acknowledge. The Jewish People knew something immeasurable was emerging, a terrible sense of wrong that was being correlated and orchestrated, but unsure how dark the period would be. Before 6,000,000 Jews of Europe failed to Survive, the Jewish People lived with the idea that all Civilisation could allow for anyone to stoop to the depths proposed by Hitler. However, what The Holocaust has proved, after the initial confining and the emerging Catastrophe for those Murdered Jews of Europe, is the range of irrefutable and documented Evidence that is the proof which is Truthful. Part of that assessment amounts to only a proportion of the Catastrophe we know!

Belzec 600,000

Birkenau (Auschwitz) 1,100,000

Chelmno 152,000

Majdanek, 200,000

Sobibor 250,000

Treblinka 900,000

Sub-Total 3,202,000 Jews Murdered in The Death Camps alone!

Here we have the relevant information garnered from many sources as to the commissioning of Hitler’s Final Solution in the 6 Death Camps Hitler had established in Poland. Those who doubt the Truth, are both an irrelevance with an assertion that affords nothing other than distortion and a methodology which seeks to exonerate Hitler from the midst of The Holocaust. For History to be wrong on this, 6,000,000 Jews would still be alive and 50/70 Million people would not form the death toll for WWII. The Evidence that has been gifted to us, and from many of those still within The Holocaust, lends us the dimension of proof we never owned!

For whatever reason? History chose Me or I chose The Holocaust to find the commentary required by Humanity to speak humanely of those Jews. In that certainty that 6,000,000 Jews of Europe were selected, systematically and maliciously, that they were Slaughtered is their space to find our Humanity which we all have but lost?

“..extermination camp was made up of ..so called ‘castle’ and ..camp in ..woods. ..castle was a fairly large stone building at ..edge of ..village of Kulmhof. It was there that ..Jews who had been transported by lorry or railway were first brought. ..When a lorry arrived ..following members of ..ss Sonderkommando addressed ..Jews ..Camp Kommandant Bothmann ..Untersturmfuhrer Albert Plate from North Germany ..Polizeimeister Willy Lenz from Silesia ..Polizeimeister Alois Haeberle from Wuerttenberg. They explained to ..Jews that they would first of all be given a bath and deloused in Kulmhof and then sent to Germany to work. ..Jews then went inside ..castle. There they had to get undressed. After this they were sent through a passage way on to a ramp to ..castle yard where ..gas van was parked. ..back door of ..van would be open. ..Jews were made to get inside ..van. This job was done by 3 Poles ..who I believe were sentenced to death. ..Poles hit ..Jews with whips if they did not get into ..gas vans fast enough. When all ..Jews were inside ..door was bolted. ..driver then switched on ..engine ..crawled under ..van and connected a pipe from ..exhaust to ..inside of ..van. ..exhaust fumes now poured into ..inside of ..truck so that ..people inside were suffocated.” SS Scharfuhrer Theodor Malzmueller.

In sure and certain hope that I have found the deepest meaning and understanding for mending what the past can reach through the present to afford us a better future, I encounter Survivors who know best the lessons of the History I have been engaged in! So from those deafened and muted bystanders who witnessed the terms of The Holocaust, as it occurred, they now lend us their statements. For the commissioning act of such depravity engaged by those Perpetrators immersed fully in the atrocity of The Holocaust, we hear their testimony. From those Survivors who were so steeped in the terror, horror and the abject despair that is The Holocaust, we have a coming together of all strands of a very detailed and compiled historical Evidence. The proof is substantive, it is an accumulation of what we know is The Holocaust. Here at the proximity to Chelmno, as it is with all 6 of the German Death Camps within Poland, there are to be found monuments to what Hitler actually accomplished. These too add to the testament of what a World knew, witnessed and now acknowledges. Here, amongst the inscribed words on a plaque at Chelmno is a request which reads:

“..Witnesses of our suffering who live in this area ..once again we plead with them to announce our Murder to ..world.”

Truth is that ultimate response to those who might doubt any aspect of The Holocaust’s happening! Those demands for the support of an irrelevance, simply to the carve from the fact their own forgery, is immoral. It is a mediocrity which is certain and that without such deceit, there is no contention other than the lie it wishes to confuse and add disgrace to history. No one can discredit the truth of The Holocaust that has ensured History has the credibility they will not alter with their dishonesty.

Those who doubt the Truth are irrelevant. There is a remunerative that they seek which is required for them to continue their efforts on behalf of a discredited and irrational hatred. The Truth has the substance of all manner of Evidence, while those who lie about any aspect of its emergence or perpetration have but a fraud to prop it up. Truth has nothing to fear from those who dispel its veracity, while their lies are refuted by utterances, by knowledge and by the adversity of those who managed to Survive so that we too will know, History will know the Truth.

160,000 Polish Jews
20,000 Austrian, Czech, German and Luxembourg Jews
4,300 Gypsies.

History has all the evidence that is required. What we have need of is more of the detail that will enhance what we already know. Part of a plaque which seeks to commemorate what happened to those Jewish People, and others, Murdered at the Death Camp Chelmno, affords us some of the specific detail of what The Holocaust encloses. It is a simple inscribed account of the scale of an atrocity which warrants more than a mere accounting. It is devoid of any Humanity as it details, in numbers, those People who are Remembered, as a statistic and not of what went humanly wrong here. Those Jews, as they were delivered to eternity, were abandoned at Chelmno and then are extricated toward a dumping ground, having been first gassed in ‘Gassing Vans.’ This is but a formative site which deals in the Destruction of those Jews Hitler had condemned in his Final Solution, a teaching school for the mechanised and industrial Slaughter of that Hitler resolve.

“..I saw them myself ..Chelmno ..Treblinka ..Sobibor ..Belzec.” SS Obersturmbannfuhrer Rudolf Hoess.

Firstly, there is NO ‘holocaust’ other than that one experienced by the 6,000,000 Jews of Europe, those Men, Women and Their Children of the Jewish Faith, Slaughtered in The Holocaust. I am well aware of the Jewish concern for the name given over to the systematic, selective, industrialised and mechanised Murder apparatus assembled to Destroy this many Jewish People.

But while History seeks to endorse such a unique position for a People so devastated by an intolerance we were largely indifferent toward, we must accept, that ours is a duty to Recall, Remember and Record this Jewish passage through our time. Also, while we surely abandoned these Jews in their direst hour of need, we cannot allow for the dilution of a term which not only registers this Catastrophe for the Jews of The Holocaust in Europe, but positions them with all of History.

“.In respect of ..Jewish question ..make a clean sweep. ..world war is here ..annihilation of ..Jews must be ..necessary result. This question is to be regarded without sentimentalism. We are not here to have sympathy with ..Jews ..but ..with our German people. If ..German people have sacrificed 160,000 dead in ..eastern campaign ..authors of this bloody conflict will have to pay for it with their lives.” Adolf Hitler.

Neither can we just simply register little more than our disgust as the Perpetration progressed. We are the witnesses, albeit remotely, to what were Hitler’s isolating terms and all the way to what was his final resolve, which was The Final Solution. Secondly, there is nothing I can say, think or do that is other than a correction of what has been an enormous omission on our part. We stood so idly by as a grave wrong was done to these the Jews of Europe, the 6,000,000 Murdered Jews, Men, Women and Their Children of The Holocaust. I was not there but this document is given, not as an excuse to what was allowed to happen nor to simply accept what was done in terms of a vast hatred, but to acknowledge that wrong and accept responsibility for that wrong. The fact that there were those like me, Christians of sorts, who should have found the moral courage demanded of their own God to assist, help, alleviate and even prevent the eventual disaster, is a warrant for my efforts.

“..bones ..ground with ..hand operated grinder on a cement surface near ..woods. ..ground bones ..carried out of ..woods ..more or less every 2nd. night ..together with ..ash.” Szymon Shrebrnik.

That the suffering of the Jews of our Communities was witnessed by all too many, neighbours and close associates, proved too great for the many as the shocking facts of what must have been known are realised! That this abandonment is clearly evidenced, and as the Catastrophe amounts to a termed Genocide of such enormous proportions, and as History had yet to contemplate its extraordinary dimension, we are burdened by its sheer weight of despair and the magnitude of its commissioning. In that depth of despondency, History too has failed to come up with the exacting terms of any form of reference that will satisfy any sort of comprehension. To reach an understanding which is required to not only legislate for the wrong done, but to formulate a relevant corrective for the omission of Justice requires our re-examining. It is an ugly truth that while civilisation fought a World War, the Second in our History, Humanity was being destroyed by Hitler.

“.. I reported ..at Litzmannstadt ..they gave me an account ..a special unit ..Reichsfuhrer ..detailed ..under the command of ..SS Police Leader ..Warthegau. ..given ..description where Kulm was. ..came from ..Head Office of Reich Security ..mission ..of Gruppenfuhrer Mueller ..report to ..Mueller. ..saw ..room ..possibly five times ..size of this one. ..Jews inside ..required to undress and after ..completely closed truck arrived ..doors ..opened and it came up to ..platform ..naked Jews ..go inside. .. truck was closed and began to move. ..I rode after ..truck ..and there I saw ..most horrible thing that I had ever seen in my life. It drove up to a long ditch ..doors were opened ..bodies ..thrown out.. ..into ..ditch. ..a civilian ..removing teeth with pliers.” SS Obersturmbannfuhrer Adolf Eichmann.

These 6,000,000 Jews of Europe who had their Humanity stripped away from them in the Death Camps, within the Concentration Camps, inside the Ghettos and in the deepest recesses of the Killing Sites are owed more than my words can infer. Eichmann gives us his evidence of what he witnessed at Chelmno on orders from Mueller, so as to give us a clearer indication of how Hitler’s operation was proceeding. These vassals of all that Hitler demanded would be clearly jostling for position in order to curry favour and inform with der Fuhrer. Remember too, that all of this resolution was under Hitler’s expressed tutelage and clearest demand. It was funnelled down through the ranks from Hitler to Himmler, and then onto Heydrich and Eichmann. To make the jostling for position an effort in diffusion, that channelling from Hitler would arrive at Mueller’s desk, and also for him to ensure that Eichmann was detailed to fix what concerns he might have personally had about the commissioning of The Final Solution.

“..When our inmates returned from ..woods in ..evening ..they said that they had been burying Jews from Klodawa in a common grave in ..woods. They removed ..corpses from large black vans ..in which ..Jews had been poisoned with exhaust fumes. ..corpses were in underwear ..in ..van there were some towels and pieces of soap. This convinced me that Jews ..having undressed ..were given towels and soap and led to ..basement ..where ..they were supposed to take a shower. 3 or 4 of those working in ..wood that day did not return as they had been working badly and had been shot. ..following day I volunteered to work in ..woods. While I was leaving ..I saw a large van with its back end up against ..palace. ..door was open. A footbridge made it easier to get into ..vehicle. What drew my attention was a wooden grate on ..van floor ..just like those in a bathhouse.” Michal Podchelbnik.

But this burgeoning reality was opened up to a World way before a series of Court cases was orchestrated. These show trials, disguising the fact that the exacting and truthful detail of the onslaught and annihilation of the Jewish People was already known to much of the World, does not afford what a clear Justice demands. The exact detail of the aggression against the Jewish People, as it progressed and manifested itself into this awful dimension of atrocity and destruction, was somewhat subdued by a doubt and even the incredulity of those who were remote from its immediacy and occurrence. While it was clearly suppressed by those who sought to disguise or shield us from its enormity, there is much that has yet to be explained by those who knew, whose closer proximity afforded them a grandstand seat.

The shocking Truth as it finally emerged, and with that initial assessment of the overall Catastrophe for the Jewish People, must redefine our failed response. Also, and there needs to be a reassertion of the figures, through which the certainty is not altered by the probability, which might exist, that the weight of the Catastrophe is far graver than we had formerly assessed?

“..All my family was transported from Wolclawek. Me ..my father ..brother were sent to a camp in ..City of Poznan. After 2 years ..we were transferred to ghetto Lodz ..while my father and brother ..who were very weak ..because of ..work in ..camp ..were sent to ..Ruckzug ..meaning ..extermination camp ..with other 7,000 human beings. I was selected by ..commander of ..camp and since then I work here. All ..other people from my transport were exterminated ..all of them ..habitants of ..ghetto really believed they were going to a place of work ..and there ..their situation will improve. Now I was left alone and I wait to ..day when I go to heaven. One favour I ask of you ..dear people ..tell my sisters ..my brother and 2 brothers in law ..who live in Russia ..what was my fate. ..names of ..sisters and brother are ..Zurawski from Wloclawek ..36 Lodzka Street. ..brother’s in law are called Szaja Noyman ..Jacub Weintraub from Wloclawek.” Mordechai Zurawski.

There are those though who remained in such close proximity to the exact detail of the perpetration, outside the Death Camps and alongside the Killing sites, who owe more than their failed statements attest to. That they too have much that needs to be explained and expressed must be scrutinised for their imperfections.

For the case of Chelmno, what has been acknowledged by the IMT, is that 340,000 Murdered Jews were gassed here. The account merely augments a figure that is barely 5% of the full estimation of all those Jews of Europe who were finally Murdered to satisfy Hitler’s hate filled demands. The Holocaust evidence is a case of criminality so grave, that any term endorsed to explain it, would barely harbour all of Humanity’s contempt for its commissioning, for its barbarity and for its completion!

“..secret extermination camp in Chelmno ..where over 340,000 Jews were done away with in ..death vans ..was both founded by and directly subordinate to ..Gestapo and was known as ‘Sonderkommando Kulmhof’.” Part of the IMT Indictment.

While this is what the World was made fully aware of at the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg, and then from within the Eichmann Trial in Jerusalem, it does not make salutary reading and is unedifying in its brutal realisation. As details concerning this Death Camp at Chelmno have been well documented, I simply wish to add toward that knowledge of what was known, and as it was known by those who knew of it and should have known of its perpetration! The trial transcripts clearly identify a systematic onslaught against the Jewish People. That this was fully acknowledged by History and corroborated by all those who were key to the detail we have now been made fully aware of, makes us aware of the deeper concern for civilisation.

“..We shall ..take the Jewish Question toward its total solution. ..total elimination.”
das Schwarze Korps. (November 1938).

With this, and subsequent visits to other Death Camp establishments, we learn what gave Hoess the detail he sought so as to bring about a more radical solution to the task he would undertake at Auschwitz. That radical solution would be the usage of static Gas Chambers of industrial dimensions, as opposed to Gassing Vans. His usage of Zyklon ‘B’ Gas in an enormously mechanised way, displaced the use of Carbon Monoxide poisoning, as he had witnessed it at Chelmno. Hoess would then have attached to these gassing facilities the purpose built Krematoria, which were a device to not only obliterate all traces of the crimes committed at Birkenau, but was also used in an attempt to shield from view the very evidence required by History to accuse and endorse Humanity’s disgust. Here, and so as to immediately obliterate the traces of the crimes being committed in their 100’s of 1,000’s at Birkenau, Hoess was all but thorough. The Death Camp branch of Auschwitz, would require forensically sourced methods that could be used to deliver to us what the Blueprints of Genocide could barely disguise. History though was not to be outdone by even the efforts of those like Hoess and the SK ‘1005’ specialist Blobel.

“..After we had heard ..account from Vilna ..on ..one hand ..and ..Chelmno on ..other ..we believed that this was being done systematically. I must say that in ..previous years ..even we could not picture to ourselves that a nation in ..20th. century would indeed execute a death sentence on an entire people. We asked ourselves more than once ..They are degrading us ..they are suppressing us ..are they truly thinking of destroying all of us? We did not believe it. ” Zivia Lubetkin.

The Truth will finally win out, and the Evidence that has been placed before the courts of time allows us the task of bringing forth an attempted comprehension and that we are rightly aghast that this much Hitler was allowed to achieve. That truth was here at Chelmno, it was present at Auschwitz and is certainly presented by Birkenau. It was evidenced clearly for those like Zivia Lubetkin who could all too easily relate to that particular ‘death sentence on an entire people’.

While Chelmno remains silent almost, in terms of what was made aware to us all in respect to what Auschwitz and Birkenau relay back to us, Chelmno has not been totally silenced. The following appraisal is what was presented before The Eichmann Trial in Jerusalem. So for the purpose of exactness, I have detailed the Transcript as it is presented to History before an Israeli Court. Allow this transcript, which forms part of the very basis of the Evidence that exists of what Chelmno was, what Chelmno had been intended for and what Chelmno had indeed become, to let you to know and at least appreciate, that there is this clear lack of comprehension which The Holocaust demands we acquaint ourselves with.

“..Another truck arrived and ..whole procedure was repeated. This lasted all day long. I noticed that more trucks arrived at ..grounds than left. I came to ..conclusion that trucks leaving Chelmno must have had larger carrying capacity.” Michal Podchelbnik.

CHELMNO, in German Kulmhof, in the vicinity Lodz, was erected from the very outset solely as an Extermination Camp. At this place, people were not employed in any way or utilised for labour, they were slaughtered immediately. The SS commander would tell the new arrivals that they were being taken to work and that before their departure they would have to wash and hand over their garments for disinfection. They would be escorted to a building in which they undressed. On the walls were prominently placed signs reading: ‘To The Doctor’ or ‘To The Wash Room’. The Jews would then be ordered to go out naked, or with nothing but a shirt on their bodies and enter grey vehicles marked ‘Sonderwagen’ each one of which held 80 to 100 people. These, they were told, would take them to the ‘washplace’. When the doors were closed, the engine was switched on and the victims killed by exhaust fumes. Once the screams had died down the vehicle moved off to the nearby forest where Jewish forced labourers, Waldkommando, would remove the bodies. After the teeth had been extracted and the rings removed, they would throw the bodies into prepared pits. The Waldkommando worked with their legs in chains. They were put to death from time to time, and new forced labourers chosen from the transports.

The exterminations at Chelmno began at the end of 1941. Here too, within a few months, furnaces were built to burn the bodies. The ashes were removed and after the bones had been ground down, they were buried in pits or thrown into the river. In April 1943, the Extermination Camp ceased operating and the furnaces were demolished. In 1944 it became apparent that the work was not yet completed; the camp was re-established and new furnaces installed. Once again they operated in accordance with the well worn procedure: death by gas and the burning of the bodies. A number of months later, the business of slaughter was completed. The killers dismantled the camp, obliterated the evidence of their murders and set about executing the forced labourers, now called ‘Sonderkommando’ who had been engaged in burning the bodies. A few of them resisted and 2 succeeded in escaping. 2 of the only 4 survivors of this camp who were left alive to tell the world of its horrors. According to a conservative estimate, some 340,000 Jews were exterminated at Chelmno. These were mainly from the Lodz area, Posen and Warsaw, in addition to Jews from Germany, Austria, France, Luxembourg and Holland who had passed through the Lodz Ghetto. Here, too, the effects and clothing were looted.

On 9 January 1943, the ‘German People’s Winter Aid Campaign’ wrote to the German administration of the Lodz Ghetto complaining that a part of the clothing sent from Chelmno had not been adequately cleaned, and that the ‘Jewish Badge’ had not been removed from one of the coats. Since the garments were intended for German settlers, so the communication stated, such neglect was not to be tolerated, as it brought discredit to the ‘Winter Aid Campaign’: ‘das Winterhiffiswerk damit in Miskredit komml’.” From The Trial Transcripts of Adolf Eichmann before an Israeli Court in Jerusalem.

“..Waldkommando told us that they were building two furnaces in ..wood. They did not know what purpose they would serve. ..furnaces were very primitive they stood on a cement foundation and were narrow at ..bottom ..gradually becoming wider at ..top. ..approximately 3 metres ..tall. ..width was about ..same. ..fire grate was made of narrow gauge railroad railings. There was neither a chimney nor a special trench for better draught. Later I was in ..woods a few times so I could see ..furnaces. ..Runge and Kretschmer were responsible for ..construction of ..furnaces. ..construction process lasted about 2 weeks. Jews building ..furnaces were sometimes killed for entertainment.” Szymon Shrebrnik.

I am not a Lawyer, so I cannot give a definitive assessment as to what those rules of the Law of Evidence are that should be applied. However, in the case of The Holocaust, where there is the enormity of those Crimes which were committed Against all of our Humanity, and all which that involves, those Laws demand a graver response than has been previously established and are still forthcoming. To me, the Law is for the protection of us all by all who seek it. If the Law should fail but one person, we are all losers in a system which cannot act judiciously and as such, it fails us all. With the assortment of evidence that equates to an unequivocal response to what International Law required, all of this was to be somehow met in the shadow of the 6,000,000 Murders of Jews. As with all the Laws of Mankind, be they Ethical, Moral and Equitable, these Laws would have to be rethought to deal in what now would be termed a ‘Genocide’. It is clear even from what The New York Herald Tribune declared, and the New York Times evinced, and yet sought to conceal in the inner pages, that millions of Jews were being destroyed.

“..New York Herald Tribune ..front page story on ..massacre of ..million Jews. ..horrifying ..article contains hard facts. ..outraged to have found such a brief article about ..killings in Chelmno buried ..page five ..NYT on June 27. ..Even worse ..only a two-inch article about ..Bund Report ..same day in NYT. ..Why is ..plight of ..Jews in Europe getting so little attention?” Hannah Rosen.

It is apparent that we knew back then that Chelmno meant more than just a death knell for the Jews of Lodz. With the Indictment of the World being spelled out in cold relief, and though it had moved from the inner pages of the World’s media, the murdered Jews of Europe would eventually have their case heard. But that very case, which was set before the IMT on November 20th. 1945, cannot be deemed as prudent in judicial terms as all that, given the weight of burden for Humanity’s overall loss of integrity. For the 6,000,000 Murdered Jews who had been moved toward a formal declaration of some intent, a show case trial was not to prove other than an expedience. Through this search for a just resolve, which drew upon the propensity of many Nations’ own Justice systems to equate a universal Justice with terms that they could themselves barely comprehend, Rafael Lemkin came closest to discerning the depth to which Hitler, German and his Reich had plunged with terming what had happened to the Jewish People, a ‘Genocide’.

“..complete solution of ..Jewish question in ..German sphere of influence in Europe.” Reichsmarshall Hermann Goering.

Here too in Nuremberg, with the deliberate selection of far too few of those who could have been accused of any and all Crimes against the Jews of Humanity, Justice was to lose out! A test case which still ensued, and which offered the World an insight into the hell the Jews had been plunged into over a sustained 12 year period, could not cope with the dimension of that Justice which History sought for the Jews. For these defendants, who stood arraigned before the Court, were charged with various Crimes against Peace, with War Crimes and then with the heinous Crimes against All of Humanity. Finally though, and incorporated within these indictments, a Conspiracy to commit those very Crimes was assessed from within a Common Plan. As the World watched on, Humanity was prostrate as it lay exposed to what Hitler and these all too few lackeys of a pseudo ideology managed to achieve.

That they achieved so much is written in terms of 6,000,000 Murdered Jews, 500,000 Murdered Gypsies and the colossal overall assessment that 50 to 70 Million people died, were killed and Murdered as a consequence of Hitler’s sought after War. However, there were those present who knew and had delivered to the bureaucracy of what Hitler demanded who availed of a silence which would not disturb the truth of what was done in Hitler’s name.

“..12 ..13 vans a day arrived in ..woods. On this basis I figured that about 1,000 people were gassed every day. Jews who carried ..corpses from ..van had to remove ..wooden floor grate from ..vehicle and clean ..car thoroughly. ..valuables were also placed in ..suitcase. ..towels and pieces of soap were collected separately and driven back on daily basis.” Michal Podchelbnik.

That this chosen hierarchy of a failed 1,000 year Reich were set before a mystified World which looked in awe at what Humanity could do, does make for Justice, it fails it! That these defendants were a seeming and token presence that was offered up by way of some form of Justice for any of the 6,000,000 deliberately targeted for Destruction and Systematically Destroyed, is indefensible. There were those amongst the indicted who should have exemplified the military conduct of a Centuries old tradition that had previously blended respect amongst combatants. However, that soldierly code had simply been cast aside in favour of the more debased nature of excesses of a total war. The criminal intent that was mixed in with what Hitler had openly declared would be the Slaughter of Innocents, mostly Jews, was assisted in great part by the very logistics and supply lines that motioned the Wehrmacht ever forward.

Here in this Court at Nuremberg there were Jew haters and antisemites amongst the indicted.

“..Himmler told me that before ..beginning of ..Russian campaign Hitler had spoken of this mission to a conference of ..Army Groups and ..Army Commanding Generals ..and had instructed ..Commanding Generals to provide ..necessary support.” SS Gruppenfuhrer Otto Ohlendorf.

Those, who could neither conceal their hatred, nor wished to do so, sat in amongst those less belligerent voices who stealthily distanced themselves from the more ravenous reaches of Hitler’s Final Solution, but remained enmeshed in the final reaches of that Hitlerite resolve to Destroy all of World Jewry. But there was plenty of evidence that was presented, even from those who undertook to deliver to Hitler what the exacting detail of The Final Solution had so closely meant. Also, with all that Hitler demanded in ways of War and the carnage it brought, complicity and duplicitousness had been adhered to by all those here indicted. There is a symmetry within all Testimony which makes it all appear similar, and while details of atrocity might alter in expression, they remain relentless in their exact persecution and perpetration. Details of the event will always appear uniform even in their wildest complexity. That is the nature of the finite detail added to by those pursuing Hitler’s demands. That said, any given Testimony of The Holocaust might appear to mirror events of a similar nature within the context of the commissioning of those events. The Holocaust testimonies are all equally remarkable in their absolute and extraordinary commentary upon man’s inhumanity to his fellow Man, Woman and Their Children had achieved.

“..corpses were haphazardly piled one on another as high as half way up ..side of ..van. Some of those murdered died holding their loved ones in their arms. ..corpses generally did not look bad. I did not notice anyone with their tongue sticking out of their mouths or with any unnatural bruises. ..bodies were still warm. I could not smell any gas. Some were still alive. In such cases SS men killed them by shooting them in ..back of ..head. After ..van had been emptied of ..bodies ..it returned to Chelmno.” Michal Podchelbnik.

The recollections of Testimony are both preserving of an exact detail that we all must demand for History. They are also then very revealing of a destructive intent which those who were the intended targets, Testify to its genesis and perpetration. These, though they have left this specific detail to those who Survived it, must relive and endure each and every moment they recall what was inflicted upon them, as we call upon them to deliver their Truth. While all Testimony, Witnessed, Perpetrated and Acknowledged was presented in open Court, there are certain conditions which must prevail and are required to provide the physical evidence necessary in Law. This is necessary so as to provide for us all the final status of that proof. This normally presents to testimony the physical evidence involved, which in the cases of Murder will introduce the actual body as that physical and verifiable corroboration. In absence of such ‘body of proof’, there will be a reliance upon those other elements of physical evidence, which today contains all aspects relating to the physical demonstration of what DNA can now provide.

“..When ..Soviet Army was advancing quickly ..one night we were ordered to leave ..granary in groups of 5…Lenz ordered us to lie down on ..ground. He shot everybody in ..back of ..head. I lost consciousness and regained it when there was no one around. All ..SS men were shooting inside ..granary. I crawled to ..car lighting ..spot and broke both headlights. Under ..cover of darkness I managed to run away. ..wound was not deadly. ..bullet went through ..neck and mouth and pierced my nose and then went out.” Szymon Shrebrnik.

However, lacking what very evidence DNA provides, testimony has now been offered and constitutes a perspective in relation to what can be proven, and we have much that affords us a forensic testament of all the evidence that we require.

Even with the absence of that entire 6,000,000 ‘body of proof’ of evidence, there becomes the reliance upon any and all documentation that is related to the extent of the crime we are concerned with, and that enormous crime is The Holocaust. We have garnered much from what was not destroyed in Hitler’s race to conceal his Crimes. Remember too, that while Hitler placed an ideological expression upon those Crimes, which was clearly manifested and degraded in terms of a Mass Murder that had all the attributes of a clear and larcenous intent. That said, and with all accusations listed together, there are three aspects of that overwhelming Evidence which constitutes the final proof of what we have become knowledgeable of.

That Evidence stems from the Witness whose Testimony is irrefutable. It emerges from the many Perpetrator Evidences that stand the test of time. It is likewise, the verified Truth from those Jews who left behind more than a mere footnote to this awful crime, and to the many who still managed to Survive the extraordinary attempt to fully destroy them.

“..solution of ..Jewish question ..is ..business of ..Fuhrer ..not ..individuals.” SS Reichsfuhrer Heinrich Himmler.

Of course, all examination of such documentation, those verbal orders which were stated, and their detailed expectation so clearly expressed, are inter-linked with the many diaries of even those Perpetrators who present their account to posterity. Also, there are those many Diaries of the Jewish victims no longer alive to add a more rounded dimension to what they experienced. Along with these are the oral and written Testimonies of both the Perpetrators and the 1,000’s of Victims who form the vast and atrocious account that is The Holocaust. Then we have an accumulation of those Facts from all who participated in the Crimes, the criteria of which make the Evidence both prolific and abundant. There are also the countless Verbal accounts of the Perpetration, from as many of those various agencies and agents who are participants, simple bystanders or curious onlookers in the escalation toward the final annihilation.

“..About 30 workers including me were loaded into 2 vehicles ..a truck and a bus ..and driven to ..woods near Chelmno. ..escorted by about 30 SS men. In ..woods there was a trench serving as a mass grave for ..murdered Jews. We were ordered to dig ..trench further. ..we were given shovels and pickaxes.” Michal Podchelbnik.

Those who stood along the sidelines, who are made aware of the terms of the Destruction that is being undertaken, have not been reluctant purveyors of that Truth! To top all of these, and from all of these exposed and categorised assessments, we have the endless reams of Court Transcripts which are a finite detail of the very Evidence that has been placed before the bar of time. We have the very means to indict more thousands than have been indicted, and from these transcripts, we have the very names of all those who undertook to pursue a course which deviated from any civilising path.

The straying nature of such a vicious hatred, took the World from the enlightenment and into a retarded expression which has so darkened all of our History. The very light that still manages to become dimmed as we look through the passage of The Holocaust era, has yet to rekindle what the terms of The Holocaust have clearly extinguished. Of all of those corresponding Evidences, all of which will be what prevails as the final verification of the exact truth of The Holocaust, is damning in its simplest form.

“..Both crematoriums were built in ..same clearing in ..woods several metres from each other. ..located at ..entrance of ..clearing and vehicles drove past them when they arrived at ..place. ..furnaces were covered with branches ..so they would not be noticed. ..corpses were searched through by a Jew called Vidland ..who took off rings and pulled out gold teeth. He was supervised by Piller. Each furnace was operated by 12 Jewish workers ..who placed ..corpses between layers of chipped wood. Before setting them on fire ..gasoline was poured over ..pile of bodies. ..capacity of 1 furnace was more or less ..same as 1 van. Runge operated 1 crematorium and Kretschmer ..other. Lenz was their superior. It took approximately 1 hour for ..corpses to burn. Then a new pile of bodies were added.” Szymon Shrebrnik.

The Holocaust therefore, as it is measured even in the minds of those of us whose endeavour is still barely able to comprehend it all, strive to do so to Remember, to Recall and to do justice to the memory of those we have truly failed. However, the detail will not be wholly an account in mere statistical form. We will not have the inhuman of what Hitler demanded nor those hushed expressions of his minions who sought out for Hitler the solution that would prove final for these 6,000,000 Jews of Europe. It will be filled with 6,000,000 Human tremors of such seismic proportions, its resonance rocks the very foundations of Civilisation through to this day and on into tomorrow. Bearing in mind, that against all of this Evidence presented, there is our own innate and incapable ability to ensure that those persons mandated to act judiciously on our behalf, and for Humanity’s cause, are actually able to do so. For the World to enact a Justice that would represent the cost to any of any one of those 6,000,000 Murdered Jews of Europe, those very People no longer alive and available to even adjudge the strength of the indictment let alone the eventual verdict’s failings, who can judge on their behalf?

“..I worked 10 days in Chelmno. ..process of exterminating Jews was repeated every day. ..woods were not fenced in at that time. There were no furnaces for burning corpses either. I witnessed ..extermination of Jews from Bugaj and ..Izbica. On Friday they brought gypsies from Lodz. On Saturday ..1st. transport from Lodz ghetto arrived. At ..time of ..arrival ..our labour group underwent selection. ..weakest 20 Jews were killed and replaced with Jews from Lodz”. Michal Podchelbnik.

There are countless Witness testimonies of what more than corroborates the already established evidence. That evidence, which fully secures for posterity the truth and veracity in our History, is closely termed within the confines of The Holocaust itself. There is also much of what has been established from all the Survivoral Evidence that has been delivered to us thus far. That so many Jews of Europe, who Survived and have given over their knowledge of what we are still becoming aware of, all of which will act to broaden out that acceptance of what we have come to know is The Holocaust.

All physical evidence is contained in what we know Hitler conceived of. All pertinent evidence is contained in what Hitler planned and exacted against the Jewish People. All that the Law might require, so as to establish these relevant and verifiable facts of the case, have been gifted by Hitler’s own failure to perceive that the 1,000 year Reich would not last and the Truth of what Hitler had buried throughout Europe would rise to accuse him of the fullest dimension and terrifying ordeal for the Jews of Europe that is The Holocaust.

“..Where ..Jewish Question is brought up in public ..there may be no discussion of a future overall solution. It may ..be mentioned that ..Jews are taken in groups for appropriate labor purposes.” Martin Bormann.

In view of all that has been stated and all of what has been consistently written about and all of this Evidence has proved pertinent to The Holocaust, we have come no closer to comprehending for ourselves what these effects of Hitler’s personal hatred had on so many innocent Jewish People. From all of that Evidence that has been amassed, it would appear that little more evidence is further required which might add to the overall assessment of the intolerable weight of atrocity that has been made. However, so much remains that is still absent from the narrative of what 6,000,000 Jews of Europe fully had to contend with, endure and fail to live past. As it is with individual and especially personal grief, there are individual reasons to judge them all separately. As far as there can be, there are those 6,000,000 expressions of shock and horror which need to be explored, explained and come to terms with. What met with these Jewish People, as they were force marched toward their doom, can only ever be speculated with and given newer expression.

“..August 2nd. 1942 I was transported from ..City of Sziradz to Ghetto Lodz. With me were my brother Geniek and my father ..while my mother ..my sisters Kadzia and Estera and 3 children of Estera were left behind ..in a church in Siradz. After a few days I learned that all who were in that church ..were driven in trucks to ..wood between Kolo and Dabie and there poisoned by gas and burnt in big crematoria which were specially built for this purpose. During a few weeks there was curfew ‘Sperre’ in ghetto Lodz ..and 20,000 were taken from it to that wood and they too were gassed and burnt. Among them my father. ..same thing happened in all ..region towns. After 2 years ..cemetery of .. ghetto and ….people died there like flies ..ghetto ..was spread with corpses of about 100,000 innocent men because they could not defend themselves. ..rest were sent to labor camps. We already knew then what kind of work it was. I work as a tailor but my brother could not bear ..tortures taking place in ..wood and he fell. I have another brother in Russia ..Avraham Szlamokowicz ..I doubt if I’ll live to see him again. I have a little request from those who will find this notebook. I ask them to say a few words to ..people of Sziradz ..Zielinski ..Kuziczki ..Olandra ..Westodolski ..ask from them that if my brother will return from Russia they will tell him our story ..and that God will pay them their proper punishment. I myself cannot do anything because here we are all chained.” Yacov Szlemokowicz.

We cannot even approach the purely personal psychology and mindset of these Jewish People as they met with such a radical effrontery and what fear must mean. As to what the sense of terror which met with so many human lives was, our own trepidation can not enact the scenario which placed these Jews before The Death Camps or The Killing Sites of a Hitler want. We cannot know either the abject despair of a People unless we have their full knowledge, and from all of those 6,000,000 Jews of Europe, Men, Women and Their Children. For all of those Jews who were fully consumed in the conflagration, the sheer vastness and scale of the atrocity all adds to our complete lack and appreciation for what outrage confronts us. After all that has been proven in relation to the Slaughter of the 6,000,000 Jews of The Holocaust, we accommodate so little of their own disdain for our clear abandonment of them. That said, it is evident that the validation, which is anything that has been presented to support what these facts assert, have been so ridiculously lied about, the test of History is a warrant to promptly contest any suggestion other than what Hitler managed in the Slaughter of these 6,000,000 Jews of Europe.

“..As soon as ..ramp had been erected in ..castle ..people started arriving in Kulmhof from Litzmannstadt in lorries. ..people were told that they had to take a bath ..that their clothes had to be disinfected and that they could hand in any valuable items beforehand to be registered. When they had undressed they were sent to ..cellar of ..castle and then along a passageway on to ..ramp and from there into ..gas-van. In ..castle there were signs marked “to ..baths”. ..gas vans were large vans ..about 4-5 meters long ..2.2 meter wide and 2 meter high. ..interior walls were lined with sheet metal. On ..floor there was a wooden grille. ..floor of ..van had an opening which could be connected to ..exhaust by means of a removable metal pipe. When ..lorries were full of people ..double doors at ..back were closed and ..exhaust connected to ..interior of ..van.” SS Scharfuhrer Walter Burmeister.

Whatever the Evidence garnered and gained from the slightest piece of information all the way through to the Transcripts of the Trials of the Accused, be it from Perpetrators, Participants or even bystanders, there is a direct proof of the truth of all that has been raged against these Jews. What has already been catalogued is voluminous in such tomes so immense, they fill a World’s Library.

Also, the direct link to circumstantial evidence which, when added to enormity of the Evidence we have, gives another consistent dimension to the Truth we have obtained. While it is essential that we deal in laws that are Governed by International agreement, so that no one Country can so lightly dismiss their own culpability in the tenets of The Final Solution, we acknowledge the constraints of adjoining all Laws. That atrocity, which fully delivered an eventual resolve for Hitler which is termed The Holocaust, is an accusation of History, Civilisation, Community and Humanity. With those human Laws established, and which became the agreed Juris Prudence of all Trials for all post World War II endeavours, there is an effort to judge the wrong doings of Mankind.

“..I heard a truck door slam followed by an outburst of screaming and banging on ..truck’s walls. Then I heard ..engine start and after 6 ..7 minutes ..when ..screams fainted and died ..truck left ..palace grounds. Next we were ordered to go to a large room upstairs. On ..floor we could see men’s clothes and women’s coats and shoes scattered about.” Michal Podchelbnik.

The attempt at that initial judgement was first witnessed on November 20th. 1945 with the setting up of these Nuremberg Trials of the Major War Criminals as they began. Here, the former seat of Hitler’s mass rallies was no match for the Hitlerite propaganda of former times, though it had the World spell bound at the time!

Nuremberg’s worrying assessment is that, and though there were some 1,500,000 Germans who were in such close proximity to the very Crimes these Criminals were being indicted for, they did not perceive the injustice of so few having been indicted? Those many German people cannot then simply deny any knowledge of what occurred. It has to be remembered that of that speculated number of those Germans assessed as knowing, 500,000 of these were key to the operation of the Nazi Party and as such, indictable under the auspices of these Military Tribunals. The trial of these major war criminals by the International Military Tribunal began at 10:00 a.m. here in Nuremberg, Germany.

“..4 to 5 corpses were placed on ..first layer on ..bottom ..on ..last ..upper layer there were as many as 30 bodies. Then ..bodies were buried under a 1 metre thick layer of earth. I noticed a few times that after a night ..earth had been dug up in some places ..exposing ..corpses buried on ..previous day.” Michal Podchelbnik.

Evidence thus provided, which included both documentary and physical evidence, and the overwhelming testimony of those who were never meant to Survive what Hitler intended, does not sit well alongside the most uniquely, unparalleled atrocity in all history. For those Survivors, who had amassed an incredible amount of detailed knowledge of what the World needed to know, have provided an indelible mark of proven record. Most of this record, which adjudged Hitler, and his cronies, not only Guilty of War Crimes but with Crimes Against Humanity. These are the facts of the case and they are compelling enough for History to know the wrong done, the Intolerance shown and the Indifference shown all adding to the asserted acceptance which allowed all of this to happen. As part of my journey toward Remembrance for these Jews of The Holocaust, I dwell much in their past. It has become somewhat of a duty to the memory of all those 6,000,000 Jews of Europe engulfed by the Catastrophe that is The Holocaust.

“..When I worked there ..length of ..trench ..grave was over 10 metres. About 1,000 people were buried a day ..which filled 3 to 4 metres of trench.” Michal Podchelbnik.

However, as I actually reside in the present, it is within their past that I have chosen to find the example of how best to live and how best to preserve for the future, the lives of others. The future will best belong to all of those who have learned the positive lessons from another People’s past. For the example which has been set by the deadly terms of The Holocaust, this should teach the many that Genocides have no place amongst the best of humanity. In the state of flux that existed, much evidence of the crimes which Hitler sought to deliver on a World stage was garnered, gathered and kept. The body of the victim has long since disappeared, but the evidence of what was the deciding factor in their fate, Hitler’s will to destroy them, remains for History to decipher, detail and register. We only need to flesh out the more elaborate detail belonging to all those 6,000,000 Murdered Jews whose Testimony will always escape us.

“..When we arrived we had to report to ..Camp Kommandant ..SS Hauptsturmfuhrer Bothmann. SS ..Haupsturmfuhrer addressed us in his living quarters ..in ..presence of SS Untersturmfuhrer Albert Plate. He explained that we had been dedicated to ..Kulmhof Extermination Camp as guards and added that in this camp ..plague boils of humanity ..Jews ..were exterminated. We were to keep quiet about everything we saw or heard.” SS Scharfuhrer Theodor Malzmueller.

Though we will never know the immensity of their pain, grief or suffering, we can attempt to empathise with their tragedy. What 6,000,000 Jews knew could accumulate the necessary particulars of which just might give a clearer indication as to comprehending an atrocity of this nature. There is a myth which Hitler put to the German people, even as the German Army progressed first into Poland, and that was the wrongful accusation that there was a Jewish conspiracy to link with a Communist threat. That link with Bolshevism, Communism or even Marxism was no more true than the sustained myth that the Jews, and not Christ, was the rightful instigator of the Crucifixion. In Poland, with as many as 3,500,000 Jews targeted for eventual Destruction, barely 20,000 of these were ever anything to do with the Communist Party. Their allegiance had always been to Poland, as Jews yes, but as Polish Jews!

“..beginning of 1942 a Jew escaped from Chelmno and came to Warsaw. ..he told us that there ..in Chelmno ..Jews were being driven out of ..city in trucks and put to death by gas.” Zivia Lubetkin.

So while it is true that the Hitlerite canard made full use of a supposed Communist threat, no presentation was met that Communism was other than a Party that would settle the equivalence in all People. Of course, today, we are well aware that in all systems there will be those who will consider themselves more equal, than others and will act according to the diktats which Hitler progressed. But it was as a political enemy of the German people that Hitler sought to drag the whole of World Jewry deeper into that political and ideological deceit. This is much of the reason why the German people of the day grasped all that Hitler urged and acted in accord and with a borrowed hatred. For those today, who would see things differently and would even seek to exonerate Hitler from the midst of the Catastrophe for the Jewish People, they do so at the price paid by Allied Service personnel and Civilians, dead defending our rights against Hitler’s wrongs.

“..We and ..Jews from Izbica were loaded into a truck and taken to Chelmno. Let me point out that all ..Jews in ..vehicle were well built ..strong ..capable of doing even ..toughest work. ..car rolled into ..palace grounds in Chelmno. ..whole terrain was surrounded by a recently erected 2.5 ..3 metre high fence made of wooden boards. ..fence had no gaps. ..gates were opened and ..truck drove into ..grounds and stopped in front of ..palace.” Michal Podchelbnik.

But here in Poland, where it was decided that the destructive capacity for European Jewry would be stage managed, the Death Camp system was fashioned. It is no consequence therefore, that the six Death Camps established by Hitler here in Poland, measured their endeavour on an industrial scale. At Chelmno, sometimes referred to as Kulmhof, and is possibly the least known of these industrial killing establishments managed The Holocaust of some 152,000 Jews alone. For that reason I would wish to use my emphasis on this Death Camp as a kind of litmus test. As to what was not only known of these Death Camps, during their operational existence, History is now fully versed in their apparatus of destruction. What emerged so as to deliver the real evidence of what was perpetrated here has been detailed as we have been reading through these passages. That Evidence goes too for the more infamous of these Death Camps, Auschwitz/Birkenau, which disposed over more than 1,100,000 Jews and countless others within its confines.

“..3 ..larger one ..2 smaller ones. ..larger van could hold up to 170 people ..the smaller ones ..100 ..120. ..van doors were locked with a bolt and a padlock. Then ..engine was started. ..exhaust fumes entered ..interior of ..van and suffocated those inside. ..exhaust pipe went from ..engine along ..chassis and into ..van ..through a hole in ..floor ..which was covered with a perforated sheet of metal. ..hole was located more or less in ..middle of ..chassis. ..van’s floor was also covered with a wooden grate ..just like ..one in ..bathhouse. This was to prevent ..prisoners ..clogging ..exhaust pipe.” Szymon Shrebrnik.

Those others, Poles, Gypsies, the undesirables of Hitler’s fevered imagination, those designated enemies of Hitler’s Reich and anyone who looked at Hitler sideways, met an end here which added a newer dimension to what we had formerly known was barbaric. As Treblinka could not mask the Destructive capacity which dissolved the existence of more than 900,000 Jews, science has entered the fray. Sobibor could not secrete totally its capacity to do away with and Mass Murder of 250,000 Jews sent there. Majdanek dealt with the Annihilation of possibly 200,000 Jews, though this figure is being examined more closely at this moment. Belzec cannot disguise the Slaughter of 600,000 Jews nor its capacity to do so. Clearly though, we do need to differentiate between those 1,000’s of Camps which had little interest in whether the Jews who entered them came out alive.

“..van in which ..victims were gassed could take 80 ..90 people at a time. During my stay in Chelmno ..2 ..used simultaneously. In addition ..there was another van ..largest of ..3 ..but it was out of order and remained in Chelmno in ..yard.” Michal Podchelbnik.

As with The Death Camps, whose sole intention was to ensure the Jewish People who entered them, never came out alive, Death was meted all around to any Jew caught in Hitler’s web of hatred! To that extent we need to remind ourselves that at Belsen 50,000 Jews were Murdered, left to rot while all around the 1,000 Reich was crumbling. At Buchenwald 56,500 Jews were Murdered, at Dachau 35,000 Jews were Murdered and at Stutthof there where 65,000 Jews who were Murdered. All this added to a defining total which der Einsatzgruppe clearly added to with their shooting and Murder of 1,250,000 Jews along the lines of Wehrmacht communications, supply and logistics. In the midst of what I have gathered from the very informed, the participation was not as causal an effect of what emanated in these Death Camps as die Endlosung der Judenfrage suggests, but it was a massive force of destruction. It was a directive of Hitler’s which at its point of ‘aktionen’ would not have been swayed by any lack of experience in those Hitlerite demands.

“..I don’t accuse anyone that did not hide or help a Jew. We cannot demand from others to sacrifice their lives. One has no right to demand such risks.” Pola Stein.

That said, the guilt of any and all who Participated, Perpetrated or were seemingly active in The Holocaust Slaughter of The Jews, must NEVER be minimised. We also need to emphasise that whilst there was a Polish collaboration with Hitler’s terms for the Destruction of European Jewry upon Polish soil, Polish antisemitism played its part only at the urging, behest and demand of Hitler and his Reich. While that is certainly true, there are other Nations just as culpable in their negotiations with Hitler to rid their states of their Jews.

It is equally important to insist however, that we must never look the other way, that we are proactive in terms of assistance. We must simply record that the wrongs done can not be managed in our name and we certainly must never have assisted in the Slaughter programme. As evidence has been crucial, and even while we attempt to comprehend what The Death Camps ensured, at Chelmno, also known as Kulmhof, this Camp ushered in the period of the Extermination programme of Hitler’s Final Solution. A rather savage and crude operation, Chelmno exemplified extermination in the most primitive stage of Hitler’s requirement.

“..Since December 1941 97,000 have been processed ..using 3 vans. ..well known explosion in Kulmhof (Chelmno) must be treated as a special case. ..caused by faulty practice. Special instructions ..given ..to avoid such accidents. ..instructions ..ensure ..considerable increase in ..security. Further operational experience ..indicates ..following ..alterations ..appropriate. ..vans are normally loaded with 9-10 people per square meter. ..large Saurer special vans this is not possible because although they do not become overloaded their maneuverability is much impaired. ..reduction in ..load area appears desirable. ..can be achieved by reducing ..size of ..van by c. 1 meter. ..difficulty ..cannot be overcome by reducing ..size of ..load. ..reduction in ..numbers will necessitate ..longer period of operation ..free spaces will have to be filled with CO. ..smaller load area ..completely full requires ..much shorter period of operation. ..connecting hoses between ..exhaust ..van frequently rust through ..are corroded ..by ..liquids which fall on them. To prevent this ..connecting piece must be moved so ..gas is fed from ..top downwards. ..experience shows that when ..rear door is closed ..cargo presses hard towards ..door. ..makes it difficult to latch ..door. ..noise always begins when ..doors are shut ..because of fear ..darkness.” Willy Just.

Though mechanised in its form, it never approached the scale of Treblinka, nor the industrialised capacity of Auschwitz/Birkenau. Chelmno still became responsible for an immeasurable Jewish Destruction, mainly of those Jews of the Lodz Ghetto. Of course there were other Jews from other areas brought to Chelmno, Jews from different regions and every conceivable area where Jews had peaceably sought to live. There were Gypsies who were also Murdered here amongst others.

Death occurred here and was by means of the gassing vans which had experienced an enormous accomplishment within the Euthanasia Programme Hitler orchestrated. Once der Einsatzgruppe had sought to alleviate its own immediate response, their ‘Gassing Vans’ were brought back from the Eastern Front to compliment the overall ‘Killing Operations’. Here at Chelmno, there were to be no Krematoria and Hitler’s dark secret would eventually become evident. A reliance upon the efforts of Blobel’s SK ‘1005’ would ensure that the mass graves, where the Chelmno Murdered Jews were deposited in the woods, would not be allowed to yield much of its evidence. But that Evidence is available!

“..doubt was gnawing at our hearts all ..time. We had been living in this way for years. And when we received this information from Vilna and Chelmno within a short time ..when we sent our messengers to towns and villages in Poland and tales of disaster began to arrive from each place ..under a different disguise ..in Vilna because ..Jews were cooperating with ..Communists ..in Chelmno they did not disclose at all that this was extermination.” Zivia Lubetkin.

Hatred

Reflections Posted on Fri, July 31, 2015 15:44:49

What remains inexplicable in the ruins of Survivoral Memory after The Holocaust, abides in History as an horrendous account in both terms of its incomprehensibility and the lack of completeness of available Testimony. What will certainly abide in what History will continue to understand will accuse for entirety the sheer lack of Humanity afforded to 6,000,000 Jews of Europe. Personally – and I have been to places no decent human being should ever venture – the Death Camp is above and beyond what the mind can imagine. In my search and research I have listened to those on the fringes of society deigning to utilise all manner of hatred that they could muster against all those different from them! I am different from them! You are different from them! We are all different from them and we are differing from each other in so many ways! But we are virtually all the same in one important area, we are all Human Beings! So for that reason alone I do not use the word Hatred lightly especially when it might be against my fellow Human Beings. It is an overused, over exposed and threatening word by those who would seek to obliterate all traces of an antisemitic hatred Hitler fully utilised in his assault upon the Jewish People.

“..children were taken. ..All ..women ..not just ..mothers ..sensed in ..welling rebellion in their guts that something had been violently torn from ..maternal instinct that lay at ..very core of their being.” Giuliana Tedeschi.

Religion is bandied about all too often in terms of the word hatred and for me, there is NO God worth a jot that does not know that it is the diversity in People that makes for what is Humanity! On days like these, when we choose to Remember that 10 years ago there was terror on London Streets and on the Tube, that 52 Innocent People were Murdered, we feel the need to become closer to Family. When we recall too that just 20 years ago, a place called Srebrenica was devastated by a Genocidal hatred, a term of such hatred only recently and historically encapsulated in the term of The Holocaust, we choose to look for our Family. For Remembrance of The Holocaust itself, now just 70 years since it has passed into the records, the Slaughter of the Jews of Europe has much in common with the Genocide of these more than 8,000 Bosnian Muslim Men and Boys. When we reach out to Family it is time to Remember that entire Families of these Jews of The Holocaust were Murdered together, obliterated from time, but recalled and Remembered in History. Hatred, for one excuse or another, permeates all of these acts of violence, criminal acts which are raged against Innocent People. Though in varying degrees of the account, each plays its part in denigrating the very fabric of the humanity we have gained so far.

“..There were 100’s of Jews walking along ..street with blood pouring down their faces ..holes in their heads ..hands broken ..eyes hanging out of their sockets. ..covered in blood. Some ..carrying others who had collapsed. We went to ..citadel ..saw things that few people have ever seen. At ..entrance ..were soldiers standing guard. .. holding clubs ..thick as a man’s wrist ..lashing out and hitting anyone who crossed their path. ..Jews were pouring out of ..entrance. ..rows of Jews lying one on top of ..other ..whimpering horribly. ..Jews kept streaming out ..completely covered in blood. ..just being hit out of rage and hatred.” SS Hauptscharfuhrer Felix Landau.

So when we have particles of the relevant evidence, as in this depiction from the tenets of The Holocaust, they could all too easily have been applied to what Europe then experienced just 20 years ago in The Balkans. The evidence to be gained from those who saw or even Perpetrated the crimes of Srebrenica has much in common with what Felix Landau has stated here. There is no rhyme or reason for these Slaughters, merely the Fact that one ‘person’, or group, hates with that form of passion so prevalent in the terms of these expressions we have been forced to bear witness to. The lessons have been clearly learned and they appear to be skewed in the direction of an atrocity to be delivered by those who would destroy the fabric of existence. That the atrocity is visited onto the Streets of Communities so as to disturb, disconnect and destroy any sense of that community which still prevails, is a vicious tool of the newer expression of the same hatred. Democratically held views, all social norms are presented for acceptance and then they are subsequently denied to all those who differ from these, the visitors of terror. Terrorists, whose only function is to destroy the common bond in People, cannot destroy what is an essential in common with all People, their Humanity.

“..I recall particularly one mass execution when about 90 prisoners ..all Jews ..were killed by gassing. This took place ..as far as I can remember ..Spring ..1944. In this case ..corpses were sent to Professor Hirt of ..Department of Anatomy in Strasbourg. I also conclude that Hirt suggested and urged ..murder of these prisoners ..and ..along with Kramer ..bears ..main responsibility.” Magnus Wochner.

But the destruction of a People could so demonstrate and even invest a fallacious need for them to be then sanctioned for some falsified research by Professors and Medics of the Reich. All who apparently have too easily forgotten their Hypocratic Oath and their own Ethical or Moral compass. The Religion of these exponents of Destruction or Falsified Medical experimentation is not to blame for such conduct. For the seeming hatred that permeates the World today, Religion is not the root cause but the excuse. Certainly Islam is not to blame? Surely Catholicism is not to blame? As for Judaism, how can Judaism be to blame? If we take from history all that we owe to Judaism, as the deliverer of a monotheistic belief system, Judaism who is the elder brother so to speak, becomes merely a sibling rivalry in Religious terms? As with what is wrong in my own Church, it is the people who mark the religion as wrong, not the faith that is firmly held. Muslims have a wonderful faith, a belief system that will take them to their God. Islam’s is without doubt the same God of Christianity and Judaism, but with a differing vocalised expression. Despite Religion, what is wrong in any belief system, is when it does not speak out vocally enough against what is not right and not proper. In defence of the poor, or to aid the destitute or the hungry, we are all in need of a voice and those with a charitable and altruistic disposition who will look after those of the most vulnerable must act and speak for Tolerance.

“..Despite ..recent outpouring of popular and scholarly books on Hitler ..no work has yet been produced that satisfactorily explains Hitler’s obsessive ideas about ..Jews ..readiness of ..German people to accept these ideas ..and Hitler’s ability to harness an enormous apparatus of men ..institutions ..facilities just in order to murder ..Jews. Hitler has proved to be an elusive and unrewarding subject for conventional biography because ..explanations for ..baffling mystique he exercised ..for ..power he came to wield ..and for his unspeakable accomplishments are not to be found in ..facts of a banal life ..but in ..ideas and feelings that created ..symbiosis between him and ..German people. Their mutuality and interdependence thrived ..as Hitler first expressed and later gratified ..Germans’ most arrogant and abominable ambitions. He relieved their deepest fears and anxieties and ..near ..end ..disburdened them both of guilt and responsibility for ..wickedness they had given him warrant to commit.” Lucy Schildkret Dawidowicz.

Of course there are many forms of hatred, but each requires a Victim to be Victimised, a ‘coward’ to commit to the act of Hatred and for those of us to sit idly by and ignore a hatred’s consequences. I am often asked why an Irishman should choose a hatred raged against the Jewish People above any other hatred. Well the Truth is, there has not been any other hatred quite like the antisemitic hatred Hitler brought to History. The Holocaust added a systematic Slaughter to that 2,000 year hatred against the Jewish People. This time with a detail which Destroyed, Annihilated, Engulfed and Curtailed the lives of 6,000,000 People, and all because they were Jewish. In more than 2,000 years of a most rabid and rancid Human hatred, the Jewish People have been at the forefront of that directed anger, rage and hate filled emotion expressly aimed at them. But my position does not sway because of those very terms of the hatred that is expressed. I also comment upon any hatred which consumes more recent lives. I am as appalled as anyone should be, that innocence is taken when lives are treated with an intolerance we all abhor. That such lives are discarded like a disposed of piece of paper, when a 4 year old Jewish Girl, Tokele, is Murdered for her Jewish antecedence, is against all Humanity. Or when 4 Young Black Girls are Murdered in a Church, these all wreak of a crime which should be intolerable to us all. After what lesson Tokele should have lent to us, all future atrocity should not have emanated after what we have learned of The Holocaust
.

“..Death comes to every individual. There is an amazing democracy about death. It is not aristocratic for some ..people ..but a democracy for all ..people. Kings die ..beggars die ..rich ..and poor ..die ..old ..and young ..die. Death comes to ..innocent and ..guilty. Death is ..irreducible common denominator of all men. I hope you can find some consolation from Christianity’s affirmation that death is not ..end. Death is not a period that ends ..great sentence of life ..but a comma that punctuates it to a more lofty significance. Death is not a blind alley that leads ..human race into a state of nothingness ..but an open door which leads man into life eternal.” Dr. Martin Luther King Jnr.

This is but a small part of the Eulogy which Dr. King had given at the 6th. Avenue Baptist Church, Birmingham, Alabama, USA on September 18th. 1963. With this particular form of hatred, it was such a savage attack on us all as Human Beings. Dr. King speaks out against the murders of these 4 Children, these Children who were Murdered by a Klan hatred which has no place in our midst, must make a Tolerant World stand up and make these atrocities accountable. These 4 Children were Addie Mae Collins, Carol Denise McNair and Cynthia Diane Wesley. Carole Robertson’s Service was a separate occasion, though she too was enjoined in the terms of a Eulogy clearly encompassing the atrocity of her Murder also. But these killings were about Hatred, pure and simple. They are similarly defining of those Intolerances measured from within The Holocaust. It is a Hatred for these 4 young Girls who wanted to live in a World where they were defined by the colour of their skin, and Murdered because of it! So for me, I can speak about White on Black hatred just as well as I can concern myself with why 6,000,000 Jews of Europe, Men, Women and Their Children were Destroyed. I have an Irish pride in being Tolerant and am altruistic in nature, though sorely tested by those who would treat Humanity with such disregard.

“..Life springs from death ..and from ..graves of patriot men and women spring living nations.” Patrick Pearse.

All past experiences have taught us little, if the requirement of ‘nations’ is to comprise of the graves of both patriot Women, and patriot Men. I too am as concerned as to why we continued to allow this all to happen when dialogue has always protected the brave against the bullet. Initially, when the warning signs of the escalating terms of Hitler’s hatred for the Jews were mounting, when his rhetoric took on an uglier degree that was way above the bullet and dismissive of the vocabulary of dialogue, we did little to condemn Hitler nor his expression of hatred! For my own commentary in History, I would suggest that Hitler proved to be a voice that held too much of a resonance in a World crippled by similar hatreds. As such, I would rather refrain from the Irish upon Irish so called hatreds, because these have been defined by a Religious element that does not exist for most Irish People and is deliniated by an invasiveness which time will remove. But what have we learned in the 70 years since the World awakened to what it allowed to happen to the Jewish People? What has been articulated in the 50 years since Dr. King’s Eulogy? In these intervening years since the end of World War 2, what should have been learned by the entire World as we became aware of The Holocaust term? It appears we have learned next to nothing and all has been shifted from memory and lost in Rwanda, in The Balkans and even globally where hatred persists and Murder reigns.

“..Conquest ..gives no title ..if it exists over ..body ..it fails over ..mind. It can exert no empire over men’s reason ..judgement ..affections.” Roger Casement.

As we travel on from the 70 years since The Holocaust, and the realisation of what occurred and what was allowed to happen became part of the fabric of the humanity that has been abbreviated from inhumanity, we have more often learned to, fight, maim, extort, traffic humanity, kill and to Murder. It appears that rather than Tolerate the inherent differences each of us have, which is why Humanity transcends such singular bigotries, we recognise the differences in People and use that as a sword to lance that uniqueness. For History, or maybe it is just for me, if The Holocaust is to teach the World anything, we cannot read the lesson as it was not learned in the hatred that spilled out into the Streets of Birmingham, New York, London, Charleston and Sousse. It has not been learned in any of those places, and so many other places now defined by atrocity. Some of these, listed below have bellowed out from our screens to augment what The Holocaust should have ensured would never happen again. If Dr. King’s Eulogy could at least teach us something, and thus far it has not been in the way toward a more widespread Tolerance, it must speak directly to each of us about what is wrong with all manner of Intolerances across the Globe.

18/9 Birmingham, Alabama! 9/11 New York! 7/7 London! 7/6 Charleston, Carolina! 26/6 Sousse, Tunisia!

Words, which have emanated from the many who Survived The Holocaust’s most evil and pernicious grip, do not speak of any lasting hatred. Their voices mask the incredible pain and suffering they endured and their search for Justice will constantly shame us. The Survivor conceals the Fact that Humanity broadly let them down, a fact that is all too often forgotten. The Survivor suffers the persistent wrench of all our demands to relive their ordeal so that we too might understand or achieve some form of comprehension. But these Survivors are captivated by their own persistent need for all of us to learn the lesson of Tolerance and ensure that we never face the critical choices that they, the Survivors were forced to make. But in these five single instances I relate to here, which are set before the mantle of all of our History, the clear lesson has been an intolerable one, and has been exacted against innocents. Those innocents have been murdered regardless of any commandment by any God that ‘Though Shalt Not Kill.’ Entrenched within that Godly requirement is a clause which demands that we should not Murder either! So, as yet again another Black Leader has been, more recently steeled to deliver a Eulogy for the victims of a Hate Crime, these are more Victims of a Race Hate that has entrenched itself deep into the American psyche and it will not go away!

“..For too long ..we have been blind to ..way past injustices continue to shape ..present. Perhaps we see that now. Perhaps this tragedy causes us to ask some tough questions about how we can permit so many of our children to languish in poverty ..attend dilapidated schools ..grow up without prospects for a job or for a career. Perhaps it causes us to examine what we’re doing to cause some of our children to hate.” President Barak Obama.

Perhaps WE too can ask why Sharonda Coleman – Singleton, Cynthia Hurd, Susie Jackson, Ethel Lance, DePayne Middleton-Doctor, Clementa Pinckney, Tywanza Sanders, Daniel L. Simmons, and Myra Thompson were Murdered? Perhaps with this callous disregard for any Human life, as it continues to infect and as we are left reeling once more from the shock waves of its impact upon us all, we can share the pain of their Family’s loss. For me, even Irish life in MY City of Birmingham, England was disregarded by those seemingly representative of an Irish value. This has caused me to become fettered to a disgust for the Politics, Religion or otherwise, of any system which seeks to impose itself upon the majority of Humanity! Which is why, Muslims of Islam abhor what is being conducted in their name. There will be Muslims too who might well fail the test, as rejectionists, of the correct Quran passage that is being asked by a masked Murderer. That Religious contention is also pointed to those either side of an Irish border who will not relinquish the control mechanism which violence provides for them. I was asked by a Publisher to write about the ‘Irish’ situation but could not bring myself toward the distortion of ideas which both sectarian factions seek to bolster their inverted and warped idiocy! Then, after I received the picture of the 4 year old Tokele, a Jewish Girl Murdered because she was a Jew, I decided I could add to my own understanding of The Holocaust and the loss of Humanity detained in its History?

“..child held her hand. ..A child ..tiny ..little ..sheared ..stripped. ..For ..gas chamber”. Laura Harper Crist.

We see it all the time though, with this or with that Religion how equivocal the differences there are amongst us all. In some of the poorest parts of the world, Christianity reigns while people starve. The same goes for Islam with some of the world’s poorest people living amongst a Country’s wealth which is in $billions and is so misspent on arming soldiers and aiding conflict and war. We have a saying which I am sure belongs to all faiths as we ask of Religion what is God’s intention. For Christian’s we ask what would our Christ do? If Christ would not kill, or if Jesus would allow a people to go hungry, visit pain on any People, then we should ensure we act accordingly and likewise as God would intend. We should not be involved in strife, propelling others to intolerances we are morally bound to ignore. It is up to people like you and me to make a difference. When I was asked to write a book about the Irish situation, I did not wish to write about what I felt would cause many to accuse me of bias. That old chestnut of Catholic versus Protestant has been a smoke screen for all too many years. I grew up in a community where I knew a Protestant was a Person who did not attend My Church. But then, I had Aunts and Uncles who did not attend my Church! They lived elsewhere. Then I was sent a photo of a 4 year old Jewish Girl, Tokele, murdered for being Jewish. That gave me the starting point to journey back and immerse myself in the most uniquely offensive Catastrophe perpetrated against the 6,000,000 Murdered Jews of The Holocaust. What is being said now, which should have been more articulately stated back then, who make The Holocaust the most offensive perpetration of a Genocide ever to confront our very decency, our civilising Humanity. Today though, there is an acceptance that was done was wrong, but that does not go far enough to deliver even the remotest Justice to those 6,000,000 Jews of Europe.

“..Government and with it ..great majority of ..German people ..are very conscious of ..appalling suffering brought to ..Jews in Germany and ..occupied territories. ..German people in their overwhelming majority ..disgusted by ..crimes perpetrated against ..Jews. ..in ..name of ..German people appalling crimes were committed ..that demand from us moral and material reparation ..not only as far as damages to ..individual ..but ..with regard to Jewish property.” Konrad Adenauer.

One of Hitler’s ideological mainstays was the larceny conducted against the Jewish People, their Property and then their Lives. This Fact has been driven under the Radar in favour, by some, to circumvent what had always been Hitler’s intention, the theft of all that was Jewish, including existence. For me, I take my Bible’s words, which acknowledge that God gave the land of Israel to the Jewish People to accept that word is so. If there is a respect for the word of God at all, we will respect that this is his wish and honour it. It is tragic then that it has come after 6,000,000 Jews have been murdered in The Holocaust. My Bible also points to what Theft means, and the ownership of stolen Lives and Property is damnable in God’s eyes. That the Slaughter is the very reason for my writing 3 books for a Jewish memory which belongs to us all is but a part of my reasoning. This Catastrophe is what gave the Jews back to Israel and Israel back to the Jewish People and it has become a timely reminder of the word of God. It is a simple matter for me, I do not ever condone the death of innocent people, and like the people here in Ireland, we have had to re-learn to live with each other irrespective of one’s religious persuasive conviction. That is the whole point which is being lost here in the remonstrations and discriminations within religion. If there is any concern after what History has acknowledged, and if the People of this world want to live in peace, then let them go to the table with an offer that the world will see is as reasonable as it is tolerable.

“..Auschwitz may be 100’s of kilometres from Hungary but it is part of Hungarian history. ..This Death Camp was ..scene of ..inhumane suffering ..humiliation and death of nearly 500,000 of our compatriots.” Janos Ader.

The Jewish State has a clear mandate for peace written in the Blood of 6,000,000 lives lost and they will be seen to comply only if they are no longer threatened. I don’t know all the answers for a peace in the Middle East, but what Iran and Hamas, Fatah, Hezbollah all preach, about denying the very existence of Jews or of an Israeli State, this is not appropriate in the World of today! Nor indeed is it Godly. This is a hatred which is not borne out of anything Christian or what Allah or the Prophet Mohammed would even condone. It is not Islamic and it is certainly not right to wish for the destruction of any People who are defined by Race, Colour, Creed, Caste or even Ethnicity. Here in Ireland, with terrorists having denounced violence, if peace in the Middle East is what must be deserved, all must follow the road toward dialogue and all violence must end. Here with my efforts for the Jews of The Holocaust, I am convinced that what cannot be forgotten is always Remembered. Hatred has no place in a World which lives with the memory of what happened to these Jews of Europe. For what we allowed to happen, we have 6,000,000 reminders and accusers! In Alabama, New York, London, Carolina and Tunisia we have learned the lessons of hatred and added to its continuance.

“..During ..war a person could at least try to have himself transferred from an Einsatzgruppe. I myself managed to do this successfully. ..I was not demoted as a result of my transfer and not disadvantaged ..apart from remaining on very bad terms with Heydrich until his death. There were without doubt cases where people who were transferred from an Einsatzgruppe suffered disadvantage. I can no longer recall individual cases. None ..less ..as far as I know ..nobody was shot as a result.” SS Brigadefuhrer Professor Dr. Franz Six.

Despite the many contentions otherwise, there were few ramifications for those who chose conscience above Hitler’s order’s. All Perpetrators could all too easily have allowed for their participation in The Holocaust to be non-existent. So I continue to recall those 6,000,000 Jews in History whose presence has been taken from us! But for me, and while there are three Catastrophes in our History which can be categorised as a Genocide, there is one which is incomparable, and was raged against the Jews of Europe. That ‘ONE’, the Slaughter of 6,000,000 Jewish Men, Women and Their Children can only be qualified as, The Holocaust. The Holocaust exemplifies hatred on such a monumental level, it is beyond what I have long considered was the failed notion of comparative genocides. Whilst there are striking similarities in an Irish Famine or an Armenian Tragedy, given that there were such depths of destruction and despair, and with so much that was intolerable can be taken from each, each cannot afford that certain uniqueness that is The Holocaust.

“..I am no longer in ..area of Stalingrad but further north in ..middle of ..front. ..sight of ..dead ..including women and children ..is not very cheering. ..we are fighting for ..survival or non-survival of our people. ..As ..war is in our opinion a Jewish war ..Jews are ..first to feel it. Here in Russia ..wherever ..German soldier is ..no Jew remains. You can imagine that at first I needed some time to get to grips with this. ..We happen to be in possession of old clothes ..which are very much sought after. We can get everything here. ..clothes belonged to people who are no longer alive today. ..We have got to be tough here or else we will lose ..war. There is no room for pity of any kind. ..There are no Jews here anymore. ..I have already told you about ..shooting ..that I could not say ‘no’ here either. ..We have to eat and drink well because of ..nature of our work ..as I have described to you in detail. Otherwise we would crack up. ..If it weren’t for ..stupid thoughts about what we are doing in this country ..Einsatz here would be wonderful ..since it has put me in a position where I can support you all very well. Since ..as I already wrote to you ..I consider ..last Einsatz to be justified and indeed approve of ..consequences it had ..phrase ‘stupid thoughts’ is not strictly accurate. Rather it is a weakness not to be able to stand ..sight of dead people ..best way of overcoming it is to do it more often. Then it becomes a habit.” SS Obersturmfuhrer Karl Kretschmer.

As unique though as we see the very delineated terms of The Holocaust, the unparalleled, unprecedented, systematic, mechanised and industrialised nature of the Slaughter, The Holocaust sets the Destruction of these Jews apart from anything else in History. The Mongol hordes does not compare. The rampage of the Huns does not equal. The deaths of over 1 Million Irish people is no comparison. The wanton neglect and demise of over 1 Million Armenians does not compare. This is all before we even gauge the enormous differences in numbers that are still to be accounted for. The Human cost alone, all of which is beyond compare, is far greater for The Holocaust. I do not dare here to compare the savagery of one group against the viciousness of another. I do not ignore the fact that individual deaths are as prominent to all nor do I belie the more deadly destruction afforded to each is more grave than to the rest. That will to compare is for those who suffered to make clear. For those crimes that were perpetrated, that is for world Justices to decide on behalf of those no longer able to seek Justice for themselves. But with the enormous hatred of Hitler’s grasp of that violent History, honed to such a frenzy, and the duration of that rabid assault upon The Jewish People, this has not been equalled in any terms History might wish to revise.

“..A pit ..7 to 8 metres long 4 metres wide ..dug. ,earth ..piled ..one side of ..pit. This pile of earth and ..side of ..pit ..completely soaked in ..blood. ..pit ..filled with ..corpses ..all ages ..sexes. ..so many corpses ..could not ..ascertain ..depth of ..pit.” Major Karl Roesler.

Therefore, there is No comparison in terms of numbers! 6,000,000 is three times more Murderous than the neglected dead in The Irish Famine and those contingent killings, random murders and the starvations in The Armenian Tragedy, both combined. In the systematic nature and selection of a Race of People for Destruction, The Holocaust is not simply Hitler’s ultimate goal, it is The Final Solution. The negligence of Governments in Ireland is unlike the calculation made by Hitler and his Nazi ‘government’. Nor is the removal by the Turkish ‘government’ of the Armenian people from their homes representative of that same form of ‘resettlement’ devised and orchestrated by Hitler for the Jewish People. The Armenian people were forced into a desert, deprived of food and drink, shot, hanged and certainly murdered. But this was a destruction without design, without clear directive and without the will of a leader clearly orchestrating all measures detailed to bring about any final resolve. This resolve however, existed for Hitler in the tenets of a Final Solution to a Jewish Question.

“..When I am asked about executions of Jews I must confirm that on August 19th. 1942 I witnessed an execution of Jews at Belzec extermination camp. I would like to describe how I came to be there. During my conversations with SS Brigadefuhrer Globocnik ..he told me about ..large spinning mills that he had set up in Belzec. He also mentioned that work at this camp would considerably outstrip German production. When I asked him where ..spinning materials came from ..he told me proudly that they had come from ..Jews. At this point he also mentioned ..extermination actions against ..Jews ..who for ..most part were killed at ..camp at Belzec. ..During this first visit I was taken around by a ..Wirth ..who also showed and explained to me ..extermination installations at ..camp. He told me that ..following morning a new transport of about 500 Jews would be arriving at ..camp who would be channelled through these extermination chambers. He asked me whether I would like to watch one of these extermination actions ..to which ..after a great deal of reflection ..I consented. I planned to submit a report to ..Reichsarzt SS about ..extermination actions. In order to write a report I had ..however ..first to observe an action with my own eyes. I remained in ..camp ..spent ..night there and was witness to ..following events ..next morning. A goods train travelled directly into ..camp of Belzec ..freight cars were opened and Jews whom I believe were from ..area of Romania or Hungary were unloaded. ..cars were crammed fairly full. There were men ..women and children of every age. They were ordered to get into line and then had to proceed to an assembly area and take off their shoes. ..After ..Jews had removed their shoes they were separated by sex. ..women went together with ..children into a hut. There their hair was shorn and they had to get undressed. ..men went into another hut ..where they received ..same treatment. I saw what happened in ..women’s hut with my own eyes. After they had undressed ..whole procedure went fairly quickly. They ran naked from ..hut through a hedge into ..actual extermination centre. ..whole extermination centre looked just like a normal delousing institution. In front of ..building there were pots of geraniums and a sign saying ‘Hackenholt Foundation’ ..above which there was a star of David. ..building was brightly and pleasantly painted so as not to suggest people would be killed here. ..Inside ..buildings ..Jews had to enter chambers into which was channelled ..exhaust of a ..100 ..HP engine ..located in ..same building. In it there were six such extermination chambers. They were windowless ..had electric lights and two doors. One door led outside so that ..bodies could be removed. People were led from a corridor into ..chambers through an ordinary air tight door with bolts. There was a glass peephole ..as I recall ..next to ..door in ..wall. Through this window one could watch what was happening inside ..room but only when it was not too full of people. After a short time ..glass became steamed up. When ..people had been locked in ..room ..motor was switched on and then I suppose ..stop-valves or vents to ..chambers opened. ..It is possible that ..pipe led ..directly to ..chambers. Once ..engine was running ..light in ..chambers was switched off. This was followed by palpable disquiet in ..chamber. In my view it was only then that ..people sensed something else was in store for them. It seemed to me that behind ..thick walls and door they were praying and shouting for help.” Professor Dr. Wilhelm Pfannenstiel.

This consulting Waffen SS hygienist, whose commentary on the gassing process at Belzec so strikes at Humanity and for me, it reiterates that enough has already been taken from the Jewish People. Without extending an open invitation to benefit from the term which defines 6,000,000 of their number, Jews everywhere are expected to look with objectivity at what was conducted on their Families, their Heritage, their Antecedence, Creed, ethnicity and Lineage. That well sought out term, though many Jews find The Holocaust reference to a burnt offering somewhat odious or abhorrent, it is a term which defines the 6,000,000 Murdered Jewish presence in all of History. That term is clearly meant to define what, for the Jews of Israel at least, a nation borne out of the very terms that The Holocaust delivered to the World, but to World Jewry it is a constant reminder of all hatreds that are constantly aimed at them. While Hitler sought to deprive the Jews of status, liberty, home and life, he also ensured, with the systematic Slaughter of these Jews of Europe, an unparalleled and unprecedented assault upon the fabric of humanity and upon the integrity of a living and breathing People. Once he had settled upon a route toward that achievement, Hitler would attempt to ensure that the World would be further deprived of any Jewish presence. This World has been denied of some of the finest Scholars, disowned of some of the best Physicians, disclaimers set against some of the greatest Thinkers and Scientists also, Hitler would so deprive us of a route into a Music that was already sublimely felt.

“..mass resettlements of Jews began ..and on October 18th. 1942 ..Germans ordered all Jews to go to Izbica. We walked ..five hours ..Zolkiewka to Izbica. We all gathered in front of ..cinema ..divided by groups according to ..towns we came from ..Krasnystaw ..Piaski ..Turobin ..Zamosc ..Zolkiewka. ..I remember it was very cold and raining that day. ..Germans ordered ..inhabitants of Zolkiewka must go to ..train. ..whole group ran to ..train ..then ..Germans changed ..order ..sent another group ..we were tormented until ..evening. ..they shot at us. ..killed victims ..rain ..blood ..crying ..screaming. ..Rabbi Feldhendler ..Wife ..Daughter were killed. My family and I went to ..train. ..cattle cars for animals ..on ..floor ..chlorine. ..air was stifling .. huddled in this cattle car ..some ..were dying ..some ..dead ..we stood on their bodies and ..chlorine stung our eyes. ..no food ..water ..I stood close to ..wall. Through ..hole in ..wall ..I could gather ..spoon of rainwater ..to drink a little of it. I was able to write a letter to Mr Krol ..I threw it out. After three hours ..train started in ..direction of Belzec we knew exactly where we were going. ..men pulled out ..grate in ..window. People started to jump out of ..train. My brother had already jumped out ..my mother told me ..’Jump out ..my child ..you have so many girlfriends ..they will help you’ ..I jumped out after ..second railway station ..Zawada ..I was lucky ..I landed in ..ditch. Others ..jumped out ..under ..next train ..or were ..killed by ..German bullets. ..I got a bullet in my thigh but I did not feel it. I had sprained both legs ..I could not walk. ..a man with a big heart ..called Marcin Szewc. He drove by with a horse and wagon ..he found me. ..asked me what ..happened ..I lied ..saying I was a Pole and ..Germans wanted to deport me to Germany for slave labour but I had escaped them. Mr Szewc ..put me on his wagon ..took me to his home.” Mila Szternzys.

Everything for me has a musical nuance! It is a comment on life! It has a message to accompany all of us through History! So for me to say I dislike a certain music or song, I would have to had listened to it to make certain that such a statement was considered! For me, music transcends all barriers and if allowed, can bridge the divide between people and surely can allow our own humanity to more greatly achieve. Let me paraphrase what Bob Marley has to say for a moment! If one lives for one’s self, you will be in vain! If, however, one decides to live for others, one can live again through giving and tolerance. So go out and live again and again and this world can be a better place for us all. This is the lesson of a Black man! For all of those who are racially bigoted in some form or other, and who listen to all manner of Music, they simply cannot deny the enormous influence owed to African Music. The Black influences gained through the strident echoes of The Blues or the intrinsically racial cross over marked by Rhythm and Blues, all add a real diversification to our own lives. We simply cannot then pretend that a racist bigotry can be disowned when such influences can be gained, and are garnered from what all People have to afford us all.

“..Dear Friend Ubbink ..You are one of ..first to whom I shall send greetings. Let me congratulate you from ..bottom of my heart on ..liberation of your country from our brood of vipers and criminals. However dark our fate may now be ..those terrible people could not be allowed to win. Ask your people if ..now at least ..they believe what went on in Blezec. ..I thank God that I did everything in my power to cut through this abscess on ..body of humanity.” Kurt Gerstein.

What is great and good in all People cannot be denied by the few who seek to separate and divide us from the richness to be had from knowing the diversity in People. When we can gain so much from Tolerance, it is intolerable that we do not accept the differences in People that makes us unique. For me, to hecter and revile or to simply belie the influence we can all gain from such Human diversity is to negate all of humanity at its very best. Just with this musical gain from African influence, which has spread itself far and wide is to appreciate the tolerable. As the Blues was born, as Reggae stirred us and as Popular Music courses through our veins, the lineage traces its beating steps all the way back to Africa. For the ignorant, Sam Cook, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye are people of Black skin and our appreciation of them should not diminish because of that differing pigmentation. That is clearly what Martin Luther King states in his hope, which is even for us who pay to fly to the Sun to augment our lack of pigmentation when he raises the bar of Tolerance beyond what is unacceptable and as for all people,

“..they will be judged on the basis of the content of their character, and not the color of their skin.” Martin Luther King.

Can we then deny the influences inherent in all that we have gained, simply because of the racist hatred from a few? Without Elvis, remarked John Lennon, there would be no Beatles. As Elvis was clearly influenced by Gospel and Rhythm n’ Blues, the influences in the Deep South, as racist a settlement as anywhere in America, is a music fused for a Nation and with that, a tolerance could emerge. In that heady mix of cultures, enjoyment was created which could fund an acceptance of all that is righteous in all people. Reggae can manage to denounce the irrelevance of the “KKK” as Steel Pulse have. It should be just as easy for the World that listens and hears all manner of Musical genres to rely upon the relevance that is within what we can each share to gift all to humanity what is tolerable. That said then, surely Music cannot lead others to commit crimes, molest and abuse people or even murder People. That a racist leader came along and, from pure hatred, selected the People of the Jewish Faith for a Slaughter, on an industrialised and mechanised scale, simply because of an inherent difference he demonised, underscores an intolerance of any People that goes beyond all reason!

“..Those who begin by burning Books end by burning People.” Heinrich Heine.

Here, when Heinrich Heine predicted that the burning of Books would turn those who issued such a vocalised and denunciated decree, that they would share a preponderance to mass murder, an immoral degeneracy turned those intent upon burning Books into those who Murdered and cremated human beings. Heine could all too easily have said the same would be applicable to those who decapitated the German people from Jewish music. Heine though has still underlined his assessment with a pertinent understanding of the decline in civilisation’s humanity toward an unethical and immoral descent into barbarism. That the same restriction could be placed upon music, on the restrictions of Art or upon the moderation of other influences, all of this would become the catalyst for the systematic intolerances Hitler exercised. Everywhere, where prejudice, bias, bigotry or intolerance is borne, has been excavated from what civilised us and has been categorically maligned within The Holocaust Murder of 6,000,000 Jews of Europe! What History had delivered toward the culture of Humanity has been clearly rounded upon and either obscured, displaced or destroyed in his Reich, in the Ghettos, the Death Camps, the Killing Sites and an erstwhile expression of Hitler’s own brand of antisemitism.

“..Barbed wire ..right ..left ..2 dozen Ukrainians with rifles at ..rear. They came on ..led by an exceptionally pretty girl. I myself was standing with ..Wirth in front of ..death chambers. Men ..women ..children ..infants ..people with amputated legs ..all naked ..completely naked ..moved past us. In one corner there is ..SS man who tells these poor people in an unctuous voice:

..’Nothing at all will happen to you. You must just breathe deeply ..that strengthens ..lungs ..this inhalation is necessary because of ..infectious diseases ..it is good disinfection.’

..When somebody asks what their fate will be ..he explains that ..men will of course have to work ..building streets and houses. ..women will not have to work. If they want ..they can help in ..house or ..kitchen. A little glimmer of hope flickers once more in some of these poor people ..enough to make them march unresisting into ..death chambers. ..most of them understand what is happening ..smell reveals their fate! Then they climb up a little staircase ..see ..truth. Nursing mothers with an infant at ..breast ..naked ..many children of all ages ..naked. They hesitate ..but they enter ..death chambers ..most of them silent ..forced on by those behind them ..who are driven by ..whip lashes of ..SS men. A Jewish woman of about 40 ..with flaming eyes ..calls down ..revenge ..for ..blood of her children on ..head of ..murderers. ..Wirth in person strikes her in ..face 5 times with his whip ..she disappears into ..gas chamber.” Kurt Gerstein.

Can we so disown the discoveries of great Scientists like, Albert Einstein; or the Physicians of the caliber of Hans Krebs; or such Social Thinkers like Karl Marx whose effort was for the greater good of all humanity? Can these be denied to us, to History and posterity because they are of Jewish Birth? This is even before we equate ourselves with the litmus test of those Musicians and Composers who are of the Jewish Faith! Can we allow hatreds to prosper at the cost to the Culturisation all of humanity? Hatred is such a brutal term for what is unacceptable in People and is often misspelled as intolerant! The mere distinction given to the word implies a knowledge way and beyond what we could possibly realise about those we supposedly despise! That we very rarely know or are even aware of such a hate or of its manifestations, this has its own concerns! Similarly, as Erwin Schultz, who as head of Einsatzkommando 5 points out to those who use a compliance with higher authority, should not negate any move from Moral or Ethical efficacy! The supposed repercussions for refusing to act in a contrary manner to Hitler’s demand, did not entail any severe measure, punitive or otherwise.

“..I do not know of or recall any order that stated that SS chiefs or members of ..SD or ..police would be sent to Concentration Camps if they refused to carry out an order. I also never heard of such an order during ..course of conversations I had on ..subject or indeed from rumours.” SS Brigadefuhrer Erwin Schultz.

So it is clear! The choices made by those who acted to deliver for Hitler his Final Solution, resolved to do so. That they laid aside their conscience in the manner of the Destruction of innocent people, especially the Jewish People is evidenced throughout The Holocaust. To the tolerant, it is merely intolerable to not accept those we see or hear as somehow different to us! Take our love of Music as that prime example! How often do we need to hear from those whose hatred of this or that type of Music, or even a loathing for an entire genre of Music, before we realise that they have little perception as to what that expression of hatred means or entails. The haters do not own the wherewithal let alone the ability to discern taste in music, what chance do they then have of articulating their dissent of any Human Being? While taste is a subjective view point, Musical appreciation, which emerges from a mixed fusion of so many influences, cannot lessen our Musical experience objectively. For Hitler during his reign though, not only did he seek to curtail all Musical appreciation, he assuredly sought to destroy the very People whose essence of that Music had – and has – influenced so many of us. As with his own supposed ideology, Hitler then sought to secure the destruction of the very evidence of his Final Solution. For that he engaged the services of the Murderer of Babi Yar. Such was the clamour to conceal the deviant nature of his crime, Hitler set about to ensure that any awareness of the Catastrophe would be limited simply to those who spoke about it in hushed and whispered terms.

“..from June 1941 to January 1942 ..I was ..Commander of Sonderkommando 4 A. ..June 1942 ..entrusted by Gruppenfuhrer Mueller with ..task ..obliterating ..traces ..executions carried out by ..Einsatzgruppe ..East. ..orders ..report in person to ..commanders of ..Security Police ..SD ..pass on Mueller’s orders verbally ..supervise ..implementation. ..order ..top secret ..there was to be no correspondence in connection with ..task. ..September 1942 ..reported to Dr. Thomas ..Kiev ..passed ..order ..to him. ..May ..June 1943 ..made additional trips to Kiev ..after conversations with Dr. Thomas and ..SS Police Leader Hennecke ..order was carried out. During ..visit ..August ..observed ..burning of bodies in ..mass grave near Kiev. ..grave was about 55 meters long ..3 meters wide and 2.5 meters deep. ..top ..removed ..bodies ..covered with inflammable material ..ignited. ..about two days until ..grave burned ..to ..bottom. ..grave was filled in ..traces ..practically obliterated. Owing to ..moving up of ..front ..not possible to destroy ..mass graves further south and east which had resulted from executions by ..Einsatzgruppe. ..my orders ..should have extended ..duties over ..entire area occupied by ..Einsatzgruppe ..owing to ..retreat from Russia ..could not carry out my orders completely.” SS Standartenfuhrer Paul Blobel.

All diversity, in any sphere of influence is to be welcomed by all those who seek to appreciate and understand what it is that makes us unique! For want of any acceptance of a derogatory, narrow or even an inhumane response to what we personally find acceptable, are we then to adopt those very choices that are to be imposed upon us? When Jewish composers were banned from German auditoriums, when the influence of Jewish Music was to be labelled subversive, where it was suggested it could be tainted, when Germans were to be ignore its prominance, was the Music of Tchaikovsky, Mendelsohn or Mahler no longer a viable, vibrant, credible expression of brilliance? Music can not only enthuse, it can relax and infuse us with an appreciation of the culture it brings. Garnered from the widest spectrum of musical genre’s, we entered a realm of appreciation not widely open to us before the advent of radio. When someone comes along and decides for us what Music it is we should be heeding and therefore, what Music we are restricted to listening to, are we then to be subjected to an even worse than artistic destruction? Perhaps the Destruction of an innocent People!

“..I was in Berlin at that time and saw some pretty revolting sights ..destruction of Jewish shops ..Jews being arrested and led away ..police standing by while ..gangs destroyed ..shops ..even groups of well dressed women cheering. Maybe those women had a hangover next morning ..as they were intoxicated all right when this was taking place. I found it ..utterly revolting. In fact to a German journalist who saw me on that day and asked me what I was doing there ..I remember I just said very coldly ..I’m studying German culture.” Hugh Greene.

It might amaze the World to know, that while Germany has sought to come to terms with what has been done during The Holocaust period, and in its name, it pays pensions to many who Perpetrated those very crimes that they would personally denounce as both barbaric and inhuman! But what has been written for the German people through suggestion, that they did not know about the emerging detail of The Holocaust, is a catalogue of deceit which pronounces a denial that has little regret nor any remorse. That all the German people knew nothing of the emergence of The Holocaust is just as unlikely as all the German people knowing everything of the terms of Hitler’s Final Solution. But what cannot EVER be disputed is, that there cannot be one of those German people subjected to Hitler’s Reich, who could attest that they simply knew nothing at all of what was happening to the Jewish People. That is true for German’s living in Germany, invading Europe or establishing the Killing Grounds to the East. That the castigation, the assault, the incarceration, the disappearance and the Destruction of The Jews of Europe was invested with a German presence should be acknowledged with an awareness of the evidence this provides.

“..Before ..Jews undressed Oberscharfuhrer Hermann Michel deputy commander of ..camp made ..speech to them. On these occasions ..used to wear ..white coat to give ..impression ..he was a physician. Michel announced to ..Jews ..they would be sent to work. ..they would have to take baths ..undergo disinfection. After undressing ..Jews ..taken through ..Schlauch. ..led to ..gas chambers ..Ukrainians. After ..Jews entered ..gas chambers ..Ukrainians closed ..doors. ..motor which supplied ..gas was switched on by a Ukrainian called Emil and by a German driver called Erich Bauer from Berlin. After ..gassing ..doors were opened ..corpses ..removed by Jewish workers. ” SS Oberscharfuhrer Kurt Bolender.

What those Germans knew, with the evidence that was finally delivered to Hitler’s Reich, this all emerged as an executive position within The Wannsee Conference. The forthcoming Protocol was discharged down the line of command and within their own particular sphere of influences and then onto a broader German public for gestation and continuance. It is certain, that while Hitler called for the Destruction of some 11,293,300 Jews of Europe, and with 6,000,000 of that total fully Destroyed as the precepts of die Endlosung der Judenfrage demanded, 5,293,300 Jews of Europe emerged after Hitler’s defeat in World War II. This eventual figure, as a challenge to Hitler’s very personal, despicable and inhuman demands, makes Hitler’s ultimate aim, though complete in all too many ways, a defeat in terms of its conclusion. Though 6,000,000 Jews are never to be an acceptable Fact of that failure, it is recognised none the less in a statistical anaysis, that Hitler achieved most of what he had resolved to accomplish. The analysis, which must not count as more than the Human cost it tragically amounts to, presents us with a challenge to decipher, not just Hitler’s intention, but his achievement. It is essential too that as we measure the depths to which Germany and the German people sank toward, a General of the Reich can deliver his own assessment of how deeply that atrocity brought all of Germany.

“..If you were to ask me ..have we deserved victory ..I should say ..no ..not after what we’ve done. ..amount of human blood we’ve shed knowingly and as a result of our delusions and also partly instigated by ..lust of blood ..I now realize we’ve deserved defeat ..we’ve deserved our fate ..accusing myself as well.” Major General Johannes Bruhn.

As we wage a continued effort to confront denial, we assess that even the most ardent denier of The Holocaust is not stupid enough to believe their own lies. The denier simply works upon the premise that there are those, gullible, ill informed, incredulous or even ashamed of the Fact that it indeed happened. The shame of Humanity is written into that particular concord which Hitler delivered to the World. But it is to the Jewish People, who succumbed to every known trickery and deceit, that We owe our deepest apology! For what happened, for what was allowed to happen and for the rancid hatred the Jews of Europe felt, how could we ever apologise enough! It is to be recognised also, that an epitaph to the terms of The Holocaust is rebounding upon civilisation to this day. Germany fully knows and appreciates the weight of that burden and it is shouldering its immense responsibility with a renewed sense of purpose. Few ever owned up to the responsibility necessary for that decline in Humanity that has suffered along with Hitler’s resolve. There were those of course who saw the solution as method of personal enrichment. Also, as an opportunity to impress upon their masters, that though they remained hard, determined and convinced of Hitler’s position with regards to the Jews, they themselves sought to have those orders confirmed, and in written form!

“..Generalkommissar for Byelorussia

To: Reichskommissar for Ostland

I wish to ask you personally for an official directive for the conduct of the civilian administration towards the Jews deported from Germany to Byelorussia. Among these Jews are men who fought at the Front and have the Iron Cross, First and Second Class, war invalids, half-Aryans, even three- quarter Aryans.

These Jews will probably freeze or starve to death in the coming weeks.

..On my own responsibility I will not give the SD any instructions with regard to the treatment of these people.

I am certainly a hard [man] and willing to help solve the Jewish question, but people who come from our own cultural sphere just are not the same as the brutish hordes in this place. Is the slaughter to be carried out by the Lithuanians and Letts, who are themselves rejected by the population here? I couldn’t do it. I beg you to give clear directives [in this matter,] with due consideration for the good name of our Reich and our Party, in order that the necessary action can be taken in the most humane manner.

Heil Hitler!

Wilhelm Kube.”

There is this sheer weight, an inability to comprehend or even appreciate the full extent of the suffering of the Jewish People during The Holocaust. It is an enormous burden which all of Humanity must shoulder in order for us to retrieve what has been lost in terms of what civilises us. What has been achieved, thus far, does not remotely approach what is required to appreciate the monstrous scale of the atrocity. Nor does it belay the implications this has for the future of all Humanity. No amount of study nor research will bring us close to how far Humanity fell. How can we understand such a fall from grace when such was the depth of depravity measured, that civilisation sought to term that descent with a name. We have Raphael Lemkin to afford to the World that name and it is an accusation which resides in a simple term, Genocide. There will, as there have already been, future genocides after The Holocaust. But one abiding reference point to all that History will acclaim as we reach newer and more imminent Genocides, is The Holocaust. The Slaughter of 6,000,000 Jews of Europe serves as an horrendous precedent. Jewish Men, Women and Their Children were systematically sought out and Murdered. That Fact is to be our abiding legacy and it is as legitimate an allegation as it is an illegitimate response to Civilisation, Humanity and the essential need of Tolerance. Tolerance of the individual, that should reside in each of us was vacated on a grand scale to deliver that final resolve to The Jewish People. Perhaps the authoritative word should emanate from one of Hitler’s Murderers! Ohlendorf, whose calm, collected and dispassionate assessment is in stark relief to the Humanitarian concern that is so lacking of these individuals, that they are the product of a devalued Humanity!

“..men ..women and children were brought to a place of execution which was generally sited close to deepened antitank ditches. They were then shot ..kneeling or standing, and ..bodies thrown into ..pit. I at no time permitted any individual to fire ..but instructed a number of persons to shoot simultaneously, so as to avoid any direct personal responsibility. ..officers in charge of ..units or other designated persons had to fire a final shot at ..victims who were not yet dead. ..At ..beginning of 1942 ..Head of ..Security Police and ..SD sent us gas vans from Berlin. ..Whenever a unit had rounded up a sufficient number of victims ..vans were dispatched for ..extermination. We stationed these vans near ..transit camps where ..victims were assembled. ..victims were told that they were to be moved and must enter ..vans for this purpose. ..doors were then closed and ..gas flowed in through pipes. ..victims died within 10-15 minutes. ..vans were then driven to ..burial site ..where ..bodies were extracted and buried.” SS Gruppenfuhrer Otto Ohlendorf.
